Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Thank you to everyone who supported or participated in International Night. There was a wonderful turnout and tremendous opportunities to engage and learn. As a side note, there is one presenter who is looking for a book on Japan that someone may have inadvertently picked up. If you happen to know the whereabouts, please drop the book off in the main office. They would certainly appreciate it.

Please be reminded that school will be in session on Monday and Tuesday of next week. There will be no school for students on November 23, 2022 - November 25, 2022.

To support a safe return from "Thanksgiving" and Winter breaks, the DCPS expectation is that all students and staff "Test to Return" (TTR) and provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Additional information can be found under "News and Updates". For your convenience, a test kit will go home with each student, with a written overview from DCPS.

As we approach two breaks from learning this November and December, DC Public Schools will initiate the “test to return” program to maintain this commitment to health and safety.

To support a safe return from Thanksgiving and Winter breaks, all students and staff will be expected to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test.

Hyde-Addison students have talent-- and we want to see them shine!

Every student will have the opportunity to perform in their class student showcase (solo or with friends from their homeroom). This will take place during each homeroom's Music and Performing Arts class the week of December 5! Families are encouraged to help students decide what talent they would like to showcase and rehearsing in advance at home. Examples include, singing a song, doing a dance, reciting a poem, showcasing visual arts, juggling, playing the piano (keyboard available at school) or other instrument (brought in by student). It is not required, but it sure will be fun!

Based on positive feedback from previous newsletters, the Student Support Team has compiled additional resources and information to support families in ensuring the health and well-being of our children. Read on! If there is a topic you are interested in learning more about, email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov.

Beginning on January 3, 2023, all students in grades Kindergarten through 5 must have a signed permission form on file in order to walk or take public transportation home alone or with a sibling. No student will be allowed to leave school alone or with a sibling until the attached form has been signed and returned to the main office or emailed to hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov. Please note that PreK3 and PreK4 students are not eligible.

Before returning this form, please:

• ·Walk or review with your child on the route(s) they will use to travel to and from school.
• ·Be sure that your child knows their address, your phone number, and where to go or who to contact if there is an emergency.
• ·Discuss safe walking behaviors with your child, including crossing streets safely at intersections with crossing guards, marked crosswalks, or other safe locations. Please also keep in mind that the Hyde-Addison playground is NOT available for student use after school dismissal because it is reserved for the Champions afterschool program.

This form is only required for students who are walking or taking public transportation home without their parent, guardian, or another adult who is authorized to pick them up. Please return a separate signed form for each of your children, should you like.

The SY22-23 Impact Aid Survey was released Tuesday, November 1. Every year, DCPS asks families to complete this survey to generate additional federal funds. This year’s survey will be fully electronic using the Seamless platform and will be open through Thursday, December 22. Please complete one survey per child, not per household, in your preferred language. The electronic surveys and FAQ document can be found on the Impact Aid webpage.

We want to be sure students are able to safely exit the building for early dismissal, before end of the day transitions schoolwide begin. We are asking that Parents/Guardians arrive at the main entrance of the school building before 2:50pm to pick up students for early dismissal, which will provide time for them to gather their belongings and exit. You are welcome to call the main office to share your ETA, however students are not brought down until a parent has arrived to maximize learning.

If you would like a Kids Ride Free Card for your student, please fill out this short form. They will be sent home in students' backpacks on Mondays.

School mental health services and supports are an effective means of addressing the mental health needs of children and improving the learning environment. Click here if you would like to refer a student for mental health or counseling support provided by Ms. Stovall. Referrals will be processed by the Mental Health Team and staff will receive communication and updates regarding services.
