CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for such a wonderful school year! It is a privilege to be the Principal in such an amazing school. Our staff is an incredible team of dedicated professionals. Our parents are an incredible source of support for our school and are active partners in the education of their children. Lastly, our students are tenacious Wildcats who come to school every day excited and eager to learn. I hope you all have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you in September.
Sincerely,
Mr. Libby

BOAT LAUNCH
LINES FROM THE LIBRARY
Thank you for returning library books this week! All library books were supposed to be returned Monday, June 12th. If your book has gone missing, a bill was sent home. Check those backpacks! If you can’t find the book, please send in a check to WCS to pay for its replacement.
We had a great year of reading at WCS, and the library has the numbers to prove it. This year, the Woolwich community checked out 13,348 items from the library! On top of that, students read 1,404 ebooks using our Tumblebooks subscription and checked out 209 ebooks on Sora. After all that great reading, it is crucial that our students continue to read every day over the summer. They work so hard during the school year to improve their reading skills; research shows that students who don’t read over the summer can lose as much as 22% of their reading level over vacation. There are lots of great resources to help with summer reading. Please check out the Patten Free Library website for information about their programming. If you need book recommendations, check out the RSU 1 summer reading lists on the WCS website or by CLICKING HERE (a printed version will be coming home with report cards next week).
FIELD DAY
WCS Field Day took place on Thursday and it was a wild success! The day started out cool and warmed up as the sun came out in the afternoon. Many thanks to all who worked to put this event together! Thank you to the WCS PTA who funded the event AND volunteered during the day, to the 8th graders who spent the day running each of the stations, and to Mr. Hutchings for bringing it all together!
5th GRADE VISITS BOSTON
The 5th grade was able to resume the annual Boston Trip this year. Our last trip was in 2019. It was a great day exploring the exhibits at the Museum of Science with a stop to watch The Serengeti in the always impressive IMAX theater. The class enjoyed the interactive exhibits and the Lightning Show before heading off to the Boston Commons to check out The Embrace. We then continued on to walk half of the Freedom Trail to see parts of the American Revolution in person. We started with what were the training grounds for the military during the Revolutionary War and had to cut the trail short where the Stamp Act was protested at Faneuil Hall. The students and their families made this trip possible by raising money by reading. It doesn't get better than that. It was a great day experiencing Science and History beyond our walls. We finish the day off with a stop at the Kennebunk rest stop for dinner. We'd like to think that was not the highlight, but it is still up in the air. The students were terrific, and the chaperones were greatly appreciated. Another successful Boston trip in the book for WCS. Thank you, once again, to the WCS community for supporting this trip for our 5th graders.
FAMOUS MAINERS WAX MUSEUM
WCS 4th graders participated in the annual Famous Mainers Wax Museum this week. Students have spent weeks researching notable people from Maine's history and creating displays to go with their Wax Museum performance. On the day of the event, parents were invited in to walk through the classrooms and see the students dressed as their "Famous Mainer" and hear the students present a first-person biographical speech. Everyone worked very hard on this project, the the final result was AMAZING!
