Avilla Elementary Family Newsletter
August 2023
Avilla Families,
We are excited to welcome you and your child(ren) back to school. If you're new to Avilla Elementary, we look forward to building a partnership with you. I will be sending a monthly newsletter like this one. You will receive the link via text and email to your contact information that has been entered in Powerschool during your registration process. We will also post it on our school website and Facebook page. Our Facebook page will also have frequent pictures of happenings around our school.
Please contact me if you have any questions or feedback for me to consider. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child's growth!

Car Line Reminders
Our car line is very long in the morning and afternoon. Our number one priority is student safety. If you are picking up or dropping off your child, please do not park in our lot across the street and walk across to the sidewalk. This creates safety and time issues for our line. We need everyone to join the car line and remain in cars for safety and efficiency. Here are a few tips to keep your time in line shorter:
- Please do not allow your students to leave your car until adult supervision is visible on the sidewalk in the morning. There is no supervision before our doors open.
- Consider joining our line closer to drop off and pick up times. On Mondays our doors open at 8:30 and Tuesday through Friday at 7:45. Arriving in advance will simply lead to waiting in line.
- We dismiss daily at 2:45. Our preschool families need the car line space for their afternoon dismissal.
Communication is Key
Grandparents' Day
Grandparents Day will be celebrated on Friday, September 15 this year. We will welcome visitors for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades from 9:00 to 9:45 am and 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades from 9:45 to 10:30.
Preschool will hold a separate Grandparents' Day on May 13. More information will be shared this spring.
Fall Fundraiser
We are going to be trying something new this year. In place of students selling from the Clubs Choice fundraiser company as we have in the past several years, we are going to hold a school-wide Walk/Run-A-Thon. The idea of this fundraiser is to promote physical activity, teamwork toward a goal, time outdoors, and fundraising for our extra things for our school. More information will be coming soon, but mark your calendar for September 21. Your child will be bringing home pledge forms in the near future. Participation in collecting money for the event is optional, but all students in kindergarten through fifth grades will participate in the Walk/Run-A-Thon.
School Supply Donations
Thank you to representatives Judy Paul, Deb King, and Pam DeKoninck of the Avilla Legion Auxiliary, Unit 240 for their organization's generous donation of school supplies. We are grateful for this kind gesture as we begin a new school year!
A Message From our Avilla Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)
Greetings Avilla Families! Your Avilla Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) would like to extend a warm welcome to our new and returning students to Avilla Elementary! The Avilla PTO is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of Avilla parents, guardians, grandparents and Avilla staff members. We work together to fundraise and host a variety of school events such as Roller-Skating Parties, Donuts with Grownups, Claus’ Closet, Teacher Appreciation, and Ice cream treats on Field Day, to name a few. We hope you’ll consider getting involved! The more parents who contribute their time and talents, the stronger and more connected our school community grows. We recognize parents are very busy. Whether it’s volunteering for a one-time commitment, or a signature event, attending meetings, or staying connected via email, we would love to have you involved in the Avilla PTO. Our next PTO meeting is Monday, September 11th, at 3:30 in the Avilla school library. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me. Thank you for your continued support! We are looking forward to another adventurous year! Shannon Sweeney avillapto@gmail.com 260-444-6077
