It is the time of year for us to elect messengers to send to the Annual Oklahoma Baptists Meeting as well as the Western Oklahoma Baptists Meeting. If you are a member of EBC and interested in attending either or both of these meetings, please notify the Church Office so that we can appoint you at our Quarterly Business Meeting on October 29. The State Meeting is November 13-14 at First Southern, Del City. The WOBA Meeting is Sunday Evening, November 5 at FBC Hobart. We will be taking a church van to the WOBA meeting.
Another item I’d like us to discuss at our October 29 Business Meeting is our Christmas Eve Service. My family and Carey’s family gathers each Christmas Eve to celebrate. For the past 4 years, we have not been able to attend because of our EBC Christmas Eve Service. We would very much like to be with our families on Christmas if possible. So I would like to hear your thoughts on our Christmas Eve Service and how necessary it is for our staff ministers to be present. This is not an issue that requires a church vote; my hope is to get a clear sense of the desire of our Church Family so I can make an informed decision. I would be grateful if you would give some thought to the matter.
Almost every Sunday we have guests who join us for worship. You do a fantastic job at greeting them and helping them feel welcomed! I want to exhort you to go two steps further. First, when you see a new face or a new family, ask them if you can come sit with them. A few times the past month, I’ve seen a new person or new couple sitting by themselves. Just that small act of friendship from you would help them feel more comfortable in our service. Second, as you visit with them, invite them to lunch after the service. Visiting over a meal is a great way to learn their story and look for ways that you can help them get plugged in to the life of our Church Family. I’m grateful for God’s grace at work in you in this way.
