January 2024
Happy New Year!
We are so happy to have everyone back after break! We wanted to share just a few pictures from our holiday fun day below! It was a great day for all involved and we are so appreciative to the faculty that put such fun activities together for the students.
The second quarter ends on January 19th. If students are missing work/tests they should check with teachers as soon as possible to see if the work can still be handed in and if tests can be made up.
We continue to meet with our juniors for their individual progress reviews. In February we will begin to meet with our sophomores which will be followed by freshmen meetings. These meetings are great conversation starters at home as we will be sending each student home with their transcript and a course selection sheet. Please reach out to Mr. Johnson or Mrs. Rosenbaum with any questions!
Volleyball Tournament on the Holiday Fun Day
The first three periods of the day students competed in a volleyball tournament! With a quarter of our students signing up for a team this was one of the most popular events!
Gingerbread Houses on the Holiday Fun Day
Ms. Bushey and Mrs. Eney held gingerbread making all day for students!
Volleyball Winners!
Our first annual volleyball tournament winners!
Studying Myths and Truths
We are coming to the halfway point of the year and as students prepare to take finals in their semester courses, and/or retake Regents exams it is important to separate fact from fiction when it comes to studying habits.
- Myth: Cramming is effective
- Cramming might help you remember things in the short term, but it's not an effective long-term strategy. It's better to study a little bit each day leading up to an exam.
- Myth: Studying for long hours without breaks is beneficial.
- It's important to take regular breaks during study sessions. The brain needs time to rest and process information.
- Myth: All-nighters are a good way to prepare for an exam.
- Lack of sleep can impair memory and cognitive function, making it harder to perform well on an exam. Getting enough rest is critical to storing the information you learned that day so you can recall it later.
- Myth: Multitasking improves productivity.
- Multitasking can actually decrease productivity and make it harder to retain information. It's better to focus on one task at a time.
Financial Aid (FAFSA) Information-IMPORTANT FOR SENIORS!
The federal application to request financial assistance, called FAFSA, will be available in December. The delayed release is due to some significant enhancements to make it more streamlined and to expand aid opportunities.
You will need to complete the 2024-25 FAFSA and NYS aid application to be considered for federal and state student aid. To learn more about the applications and the financial aid process, Kerry Lubold from SUNY Plattsburgh's department of Student Financial Services is hosting FAFSA Completion Webinars each Wednesday in January (the 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st). These webinars will provide guidance on applying for aid, what to expect after you apply, and how to prepare for paying for college. Information on how to register is included in the PDF below.
