Get to Know Your Principal!
Virtual Parent University
We will host our second Parent University November 15th at 6:00pm. This Parent University will cover Reading and Math curriculum. We will share the Zoom link to join us online in next weeks newsletter and on Classdojo. We look forward to seeing you.
Tutoring Has Started!!!
Weekday tutoring will continue next week with the exception of Friday, November 10th. Students do not have school that day. This is a professional development day for teachers.
Remember, tutoring ends at 4:00pm. Please pick up your child on time.
Saturday Academy Program *Invitation Only*
Saturday Academy will begin November 4, 2023. This program is invitation ONLY.
It is not the same program as the Summer Makeup Academy. That program ended on October 21st.
The Saturday Academy begins at 9:00am and ends at 11:00am. Please make sure you pick your scholar up on time.

The 2024-2025 lottery for Charter Schools is now open! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled into Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption. They must be living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

With that said, we are always striving to improve daily practices. Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and myself.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one in backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up to date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication Forms attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medicines in pharmacy packaging, any adult may deliver to the nurse (appointments must be made)
PTO
Way to go Tiger families! We topped our goal of raising $50,000 and raised $57,519! We had participation from every classroom and over 170 scholars, which is a new record this year! THANK YOU SO MUCH for every contribution, big and small, for every share, and for participating in a big way in Spirit Week to build excitement and awareness of the Read-a-Thon. We are working to get prizes out as quickly as possible and will be in touch with our winners soon!

Spectacular Second Grade News!
The Second Grade Team would like to express our gratitude for your support during the month of October activities. Your dedication to our scholars and your willingness to volunteer as chaperones for our trip to the pumpkin patch and donations of items needed for pumpkin day made these experiences educational and enjoyable for our scholars.
Next week, we will start Unit 2 theme Nature's Wonders. The weekly question is, what patterns can we notice in a garden? In phonics, we will work on contractions. In Math, we will finish up Topic 4. This topic focuses on fluently adding within 100.
In Science, we will begin Lesson 3, Matter within Objects.
As we continue to settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 1: The First Americans.
This week in Math, we are finishing up our unit on fluently multiplying and dividing within 100. Scholars have been filling in multiplication tables and are using the Distributive Property to split equations into easier multiplication facts.
In Science, scholars are studying and testing non-contact forces. As a reminder, STEAM Fair topic submissions are due 11/17.

Weekly News!
Next week in Reading, students will continue analyzing main idea and details in an informational text. We will take Unit 2 Week 1 Progress Check. In Social Studies, students will discuss how the United States faces continuity and change in the 21st century. In Math, students will use strategies and properties to divide by 1 digit numbers. In Science, students will describe how natural resources are converted to energy and fuel.

SCRIPPS SPELLING BEE
Are you a great speller? Do you think you have what it takes to be in a National Spelling Bee? Well, here's your chance. CMIT will have a spelling bee that will give our 5th grade scholars a chance to complete locally and for the ultimate chance to compete nationally! Third through fifth grade will participate collectively and our 5th grade finalist will compete at the city championships! All aboard readers and spelling champs! Your teacher will receive a spelling list that will consist of the words that will be used during the spelling bee! Practice! Practice! Practice! Let's ride this spelling train! Way to go Tigers!
SUBJECT CONTENT:
SCIENCE
Science: Students will be re-introduced to the Earth's Systems. Students will take a deep dive into Earth's systems by exploring Earth's composition and explore how Earth can support life.
SOCIAL STUDIES
This week in Social Studies, students will be reading about the Spanish colonies in America.
MATH
This week in Math, we will close out topic 4 with an end of topic test and begin our division lesson. Students are required to use models and strategies to divide whole numbers.
RELA
This week, students finished Unit 1. We will migrate into Unit 2 and explore what it means to observe and analyze deeply. We will learn the skill of summarization and how one explains what they see by observation. Students will summarize the main idea of a text and use details and reasoning in their explanations. This will be a great Unit!

Greetings,
Tigers will be finishing up projects with artist statements, taking their preliminary sketches to final renderings with craftsmanship as a priority. We will also increase reviews and discussions to practice reflection activities. Necessary materials include sketchbooks/paper, pencils, and colored pencils or crayons.

Hello!! K-2nd Watched and played maracas and shakers to the movie CoCo to learn about the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead which begins this week.
3rd-5th Graders are being introduced to the website Edu.BandLab.com! On BandLab they are learning how to create music using loops and a midi keyboard!
Technology
K-1 students practiced: Introduction to Online Safety
This engaging video-based learning object provides the learner with foundational knowledge about the importance of protecting their personal information. The learner understands that they shouldn't share any personal information online or agree to meet anyone they don’t know and trust, and they should always log off or lock their device to protect their personal information

This week in PE, we will be playing a game called “Bag the beanbag” and it’s a team game that requires strategy & teamwork in order to accomplish the goal.

In STEM there has been a lot of excitement! We used our VR headsets to explore! We are still working on our unit projects. Kinder scholars have selected the shape that they think will work best for their Sail vehicle. 1st Grade scholars have started our new unit on weather. 2nd Grade scholars have been exploring bridges in different parts of the world with our VR headsets. 3rd Grade scholars are designing their pinball machines with their teams and will begin constructing them. 4th Grade scholars observed Safety Crash Tests to see how safety features are tested and improved. They will be looking at circuits to see what role they play in vehicle safety. 5th Grade scholars will be using the VR headsets to explore matter.
