SHMS Family Newsletter: Summer 2020
July 1, 2020
Principal's Message
Greetings Stuart-Hobson families,
I am equally excited and humbled to start a new role with our school community. I am excited to work with everyone to further the core work Principal Comeforo began for us. Ensuring every student feels a strong sense of belonging in our school community and achieves personal excellence in their time at Stuart-Hobson will continue as our shared schoolwide pursuits. These overarching goals are even more relevant as we navigate the ongoing health crisis and take action to combat and prevent racism’s impact on our students and school community. Neither of those situations are barriers, instead, they are opportunities for the Stuart-Hobson community to learn how to become even better and reaffirm our commitments to belonging and excellence for all students and families.
I am humbled by this opportunity because in my two years as a member of this community I have experienced first-hand its many assets and strengths. In every conversation with a student, staff, family or community member I am reminded that we all stand on the shoulders of the giants who have come before us. Those people made Stuart-Hobson an institution that fulfills its promise to young people and their families year after year. To be charged with organizing and steering this power is exciting, if not a bit overwhelming. It is reassuring to know that so many people who have contributed to making Stuart-Hobson the school that it is today are still among us and I look forward to learning from each of you to guide us through the coming months and years.
As I enter the principal position, I am working to craft a formal “Entry Plan”, sometimes called a “100 Day Plan”, that will outline my core values and beliefs as a leader. Perhaps more importantly, it will outline the diverse opportunities that I will schedule to learn from everyone in our school community. I will release this plan to the school community within the next two weeks and look forward to beginning those conversations. The learning that I glean from you all will guide our long-term plans, help us to adjust short-term goals and foci that are already playing out, and confirm a set of values and goals to guide us as we continue to move forward together.
The remainder of the content in this newsletter aims to keep you informed about opportunities and information to make the most of this summer and to help you begin planning for the upcoming school year. In addition to the release of my “Entry Plan” you will receive at least two more newsletters before students return to school, and we will resume weekly newsletters once school is in session.
Thank you all again for the opportunity to continue as a member of this school community and for believing that I can work with you all to lead us into the next phase of Stuart-Hobson Middle School’s storied and proud history.
Warm regards,
Eric Fraser
Principal
