Friday, December 2nd
From the Principals' Offices
The Winter Season is in full swing at Brookwood!
Our staff and students thoroughly enjoyed Grandparents and VIP day last week Tuesday. We'd like to thank all of our special guests for taking time out of their busy schedules to come to our schools and engage in some fun and learning with our kids. Special thanks also to Mrs. Hoerth for her hard work in organizing this special event, and to our lunchroom workers for preparing such a delicious meal for our students and VIPS.
Our halls have been filled with the sound of music as our students have all kept busy preparing for our upcoming Winter Concerts! If you haven't already, be sure to mark your calendars now (dates and times listed below). We promise that our young musicians will NOT disappoint!
Brrr....it's cold outside! We appreciate your help in reminding your student(s) to dress in weather appropriate attire for school. Hats, mittens, scarves, and coats are needed on most days at this point. Please contact your building principal if you are a family in need of these items.
Have a wonderful weekend, Mustangs!

Reading Roundup!
FROM THE CLASSROOM...
What's Happening in Kindergarten?
The Kindergarteners have been working very hard on their Zoology unit in our new Arc Core Reading Curriculum! We have been learning about wild animals, zoo animals, domestic animals, farm animals, mammals, living and non-living things! They went on hunts outside looking for wildlife, voted on their favorite animals, sorted and read many animal books, and even made their own butter! They also got to meet, observe, and learn about Mocha, Mrs. Deephouse's guinea pig! Students have been documenting their findings and drawing pictures of different animals in their science notebooks! They have all been loving their hands-on learning and are eager to learn more about other types of animals!

Athletics
From the Athletic Director...
Congratulations to the girls’ basketball team on their win over Williams Bay Tuesday! What a way to end the season! Please turn in your uniforms to Coach Metcalf ASAP.
Boys’ basketball update: your first day of practice will be earlier than planned! Please meet in the gym after school on Wednesday, December 7th, for your first practice. Be sure to have a concussion form on file if you plan to attend. If you are unsure if you have a form filled out, please check with Ms. Metcalf.
Cheer tryouts: All girls in 6th-8th grade are welcome to attend cheerleading tryouts next week! Tryouts will be held on Tuesday, December 6th from 2:50-4:30pm, and Wednesday, December 7th, from 2:50 - 4:00pm. You must plan to attend both days. On Tuesday you will be learning and practicing the routine/cheer and on Wednesday you will try out in front of judges. Be sure to have a concussion form on file if you plan to attend. If you are unsure if you have a form filled out, please check with Ms. Metcalf.
Reminder for all 6th-8th boys and girls who plan to participate in basketball and cheer: you must be in good academic standing with all of your classes in order to be able to play. Below is a reminder of our athletics eligibility guidelines from your student handbook:
Participation in any extracurricular activity is dependent on a student's daily effort and achievement. Students who have an overall passing grade and have their assignments turned in are eligible to participate in athletics or an extracurricular activity. The athletic director determines eligibility status each Thursday afternoon using the following guidelines:
Students are ineligible if they have 1 U/F or 2 Ds.
Students are ineligible to play or practice if they have a major missing assignment or summative assessment at the discretion of their classroom teacher.
Academic ineligibility notices will be sent home Friday mornings via email by the athletic director.
Students will remain after school Mondays through Thursdays to complete missing assignment(s) - with their teacher and/or in Academic Lab - before they attend practice or an activity. Once any missing work has been submitted or grades have been improved, students may return to practice.
An office referral resulting in suspension will result in sitting out of any event (practice or game) for the duration of the suspension. Additional discipline may be assigned at the discretion of administration.
Students must be in attendance for at least half of the school day in order to participate in after school practices and/or games.
Students must have signed concussion and cardiac arrest forms on file prior to participation in any practice or event.
Go Mustangs!
Coach Metcalf

Boxtops
We need your help to get more families to support the Box Tops program. The more people that participate, the more our school can earn to help get the supplies it needs!
PLUS, you can earn a bonus for our school by inviting your friends, family, and other parents to sign up and participate in Box Tops.
To refer friends to sign up, go to the Invite Friends section of the Box Tops app. (You can get there by tapping on the person icon in the upper-right corner of the app home screen.) You'll get a referral code that you can send to a friend. You'll BOTH earn Bonus Box Tops for our school when they scan their first receipt — that's extra cash that counts towards our Box Tops earnings goal of $1,000 this year.
Thanks for your help!
Email the BFO at brookwoodfamily19@gmail.com with any questions regarding box tops.

Guth's Games is ON!
Academic Lab at BMS
Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.
At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.
Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.
Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.
The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).
Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.
