Summer 2020
A Message from Mrs. Tinguely
Hi Everyone!
It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to you for the 2020 school year. I have enjoyed working with each one of you and I am so proud to have been your Media teacher. I also want to express my gratitude to the amazing parent volunteers over the years that donated their time to make the Jeffers Pond book fairs successful. We could not have done it without you! I am also grateful to the PTC parents for your support during the many I Love to Read adventures, fundraisers and activities! I wish you many more happy days in media centers and libraries in the future!
31 Children's Books to Support Conversations on Race, Racism and Resistance
"Research from Harvard University suggests that children as young as three years old, when exposed to racism and prejudice, tend to embrace and accept it, even though they might not understand the feelings. By age 5, white children are strongly biased towards whiteness. To counter this bias, experts recommend acknowledging and naming race and racism with children as early and as often as possible. Children’s books are one of the most effective and practical tools for initiating these critical conversations; and they can also be used to model what it means to resist and dismantle oppression." - Embrace Race Website
