It is June, y'all!
This past week has been a lot of me thinking "USUALLY at this time of year...." I'm doing things like helping you know know what will happen with your students devices, what to take/leave if you are changing schools or classrooms etc. So, instead of what I USUALLY do, let me share some general information and know that your principal/AP is a place for specifics. I'm always here to help, just drop me an email!
Let's start with STUDENT DEVICES
Student Chromebooks--- you don't need to worry about too much, but it is always nice to have students open drive.google.com (drive icon in the waffle) and search for anything untitled, or unnecessary. They can move files into their Google Classroom folder. It just helps to teach them file organization. Many of us know how hard it can be to find things when files are not sorted into folders or named clearly.
Student iPads--- You can also have students go into the Drive app and name files or sort them. It is a little harder on iPads, so this may be something you skip and that's fine. You do not need to have them sign out of accounts etc. because iPads will be wiped before they are used in the fall.
And now, STAFF DEVICES
IF YOU ARE RETURNING NEXT YEAR--- please communicate with your principal. Remember, tech includes teacher station, iPad, printer, doc cam--- if it would usually be in your classroom, but you have it at home, make sure your administrator knows. That's all I have to say about that.
If you are NOT returning next school year---It is very important all equipment is returned to the classroom. Your staff iPad/Chromebook needs to be given to your administrator in June. That means in the next couple weeks. Please do not keep tech equipment over the summer.
Additionally, if you are not returning in the fall, remember that your staff accounts (email, Google etc) will be inactivated. If you want to save any files from your Google Drive, please follow these steps before the end of the month. It isn't enough just to share a file with a personal gmail account... you want to transfer ownership. There are two options in the steps to help you do that easily.
And finally, some files you might need
SAVING GOOGLE FILES
8th graders may want to save the files from their Google Drive, since their accounts will be made inactive as early as June 30. Please share this information with any 8th grade students you have. (This is the same process YOU should follow if you are leaving the district and want to save files)CLICK HERE to get a link to the file
Need a refresher about those progress reports in Q for TK-5 students? Here you go!

Here is the page I usually send out. You don't need to do any of this from the perspective of prepping your iPads for next year, but if your students have anything in the camera roll, for example, that they may want to save, here are the things to do.

Hueneme COAST 2020 edition
If you haven't been into the COAST game, you might not know what it actually even is. So, let me give you some ways the game can help you...
You know how you know there is a way you could be more efficient if you knew how to use tech tools to make your work easier? The Productivity mission is here for you!
You know how you want to know what the best teaching strategy is--- you want to know the current research and practice, especially when planning for the likely option of students spending part of their learning day at home? The Pedagogy mission is here for you!
You know how you hear things like "SEL" and "Digital Citizenship" and know they should be part of your practice and planning but you just aren't sure what the big idea are, or you want specific lesson ideas? Guess what! Yup, the SEL and Digital Citizenship missions are here for you!
I want you to know... COAST is here for you! You don't have to do all the tasks, and you don't have to do all the missions, but the learning is available!
Sign in and check it out! New tasks are added every week! We all know there's always more to learn! bit.ly/hesdcoast

Hueneme Read Aloud Project
Hueneme Read Aloud Project
Remind students they will need to sign into their @hsdschools.org account to view (this is requested by the publisher in the copyright details)
share this---> bit.ly/hesdhp20
I'm adding a chapter a day and we are on chapter 8 right now. It is super fun! Our Hueneme family is doing a great job sharing their love of reading with our students!
All you have to do is tell your students about it, and don't wait! This is a June treat that will go away on June 30! (because we are respecting the copyright request that allows us to record but requires us to delete videos by the end of the month).
Check it out now and share it! Fun stuff! You know what to do... put it in your lesson plans, put it in your newsletter, text it to all your parents... it's easy, just direct your students to go to bit.ly/hesdhp20

TST recordings and Google Slide presentations are on the PD for DL page in the Blast Off section and there is a new Social Justice page in Teacher Resources.

Honestly, go check it out! Silver linings of Distance Learning. What are they? Are yours the same as the others that are posted? You might be surprised! Reply to a video--- did you know you could do that?
If you HAVE used Flipgrid, you know how simple it is. If you HAVEN'T used Flipgrid, you need to try it. It should be a MUST USE tool in the fall, and it is a great one to give your students some conversational closure this week and next, too.
Here is your grid link: https://flipgrid.com/3642a21d or use the button below. Sign in with Google and share your thoughts. Nobody cares if you are in your pajamas... that might be your silver lining!
