It's Friday!
I hope you had an enjoyable week and and have a fabulous weekend! We've had a phenomenal week here at TLMS! I am so excited about this school year...there is a feeling in the air this year, and it is exciting. I truly see our students striving to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom. Our students are learning and being challenged on a daily basis.
Please know that our job as educators is to serve...to serve the students, parents and community. If you ever have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher. We want to ensure that your child receives the best education possible each and every day. Likewise, if you ever need to speak to an administrator, please don't hesitate to contact us.
The focus this school year is GROWTH for ALL students. We want to ensure our students are improving every day. We are providing intervention, as well as enrichment, to ensure our students are provided with opportunities and resources to grow daily.
We are in this together...as a TEAM! So how can I support my child at home? It starts with conversation! I've listed some questions that provide quite a bit more of a response as compared to, "How was school today?" Here are a few questions you can ask at the end of the day:
- What was the funniest thing that happened today?
- Did anyone do anything super nice for you?
- What was the nicest thing you did for someone else?
- Who made you smile today?
- What new fact did you learn today?
- What challenged you today?
- What would you rate your day on a scale of 1 to 10? Why?
- If one of your classmates could be the teacher for the day who would you want it to be? Why?
- If you had the chance to be the teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class?
- Did anyone push your buttons today?
- Who do you want to make friends with but haven’t yet? Why not?
- What is your teacher’s most important rule?
- Does your teacher remind you of anyone else you know? How?
- Tell me something you learned about a friend today.
- What is one thing you did today that was helpful?
- When did you feel most proud of yourself today?
- What rule was the hardest to follow today?
- What is one thing you hope to learn before the school year is over?
- Which person in your class is your exact opposite?
- What subject do you like the most and why?
Try asking these questions and see if you notice a difference!
I hope you have a great three day weekend!

Attendance
Improving attendance at Three Lakes Middle School is a top priority this school year. There is a direct correlation between student attendance and school success, so encourage your students to attend school and discuss the importance of them being here daily.
Our attendance for the week is as follows:
Grade 6: 93.88%
Grade 7: 93.5%
Grade 8: 95.57%
Overall: 94.33%
Congratulations to our 8th graders for having the highest attendance this week!!! Continue motivating your students to attend school...it makes a difference!!!
Here are some helpful hints to help with attendance:
- Establish and stick to the basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.) that will help your child develop the habit of on-time attendance.
- Talk to your child about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with the teacher, counselor, or administrator to get them excited about going to school.
- Come up with back up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor or fellow parents) to help you get your child to school if something comes up (e.g. another child gets sick, your car breaks down, etc.).
- Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g. transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems) that make it difficult to get your child to school. Other parents, your child’s teacher, principal, social worker, school nurse, counselor, or community agencies can help you problem solve or connect you to a needed resource.
- If your child is absent, work with the teacher to make sure she or he has an opportunity to learn and make up for the academics missed.
