Math Class
Math Lib
Math Lib is the math version of the ELA, Ad Libs where students complete a series of problems to create a funny story. This day, students worked on strengthening their Order of Operations skills, then were able to share their stories with the class.
Integer War
Integer War is a fun, sometimes fast paced, activity used to review addition, subtraction and multiplication with integers.
Integer War
Using a deck of cards, students follow the rules for the card game War to obtain as many of thier opponents cards by correctly applying integer operation rules.
ELA Classes
Give 1, Take One
These classes are prepping for their Outsiders assessment by using a thinking routine called Give One, Get One.
Reflecting on the reading
Students write down a character they viewed as changing the most in the novel and a reason why. Students then move around the room sharing their character and thoughts with others.
Sharing thoughts!
Sharing their thinking with others helps to deepen their own thinking/understanding of character/characterization, a focus skill for this novel.
Collaboration
Students in Mrs. Mantych’s ELA classes working collaboratively
Discover and Apply
Students working to discover and apply the symbolism in Robert Frost’s poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay”
Making Connections
Halloween Dance Expectation
Date: October 28th
Time: 6-8PM
Location: NMS Gym
We are excited to have a Halloween Dance again and to get back to some typical events we use to have!
A couple of expectations:
1. Be Safe, Be responsible and Be respectful at all times
2. No masks
3. No accessories that are weapons, drug, alcohol, tobacco, vape or anything that looks like or resembles or references these type of items.
4. Make up may be worn (to dance) but no blood, guts, etc.!
5. Costumes MUST be school appropriate
Door Dash and Lunch
It has not become a big issue but I want to get ahead of it before it does become an issue. Students have been ordering Door Dash for lunch and it being delivered to school. We are informing students they are not allowed to order Door Dash (or any other food delivery app) to be delivered to school. One, it presents a safety issue with someone unaffiliated with the school coming up to school property. Two, students are violating the technology policy by using their electronics during school that is not related to school.
Please inform your child that they are not allowed to order food during school for it to be delivered. In addition, please do NOT order food for your child to be delivered because it can then become an extra burden on our office staff to keep straight! If you as a family member decide to bring food for your child and deliver it yourself, that is acceptable.
Student Led Conferences
We are looking forward to our second year of student led conferences. Last year, I asked for some feedback from parents, teachers and students. We will be reviewing this information to make the experience even better.
The reason we are conducting Student Led Conferences, is to bring our students into the conversation about their learning, their experiences, and helping them set goals moving forward. We have started discussions as a staff to adjust a bit based on feedback on how last year went. Conferences are November 21st and 22nd. More information to come!
