Principal Message
Hello Cooper Family and Friends,
Well, winter has seemed to finally arrive with a vengeance- bitter cold temperatures and lots of snow! February is packed with lots to do! We just began the KIDS HEART CHALLENGE! Mrs. Walby, our Physical Education teacher organizes this service learning event not only to raise money for the American Heart Association, but to raise awareness of heart-healthy living! Students are challenged to be physically active for 60 minutes every day, eat healthy foods, drink lots of water, and keep a health mindset. Thank you to all the families who have donated so far! Cooper families have donated over $900 already- WOW! This event will culminate the week of February 13-17, where Mrs Walby will transform our gym into an exciting obstacle course.
Friday, February 10th we will celebrate the 100th day of school! Kids and staff are welcome to dress up from 1923 or as if they are 100 years old! Classrooms will be celebrating Valentines Day this year! Such an exciting day! Classrooms will have a little celebration along with a Buddy Class Valentine activity. Teachers will share more details with you over the next few weeks. This is a very exciting and busy day so please send any classroom items to school before 11:00am.
We just began the second half to our school year. Our teachers continue to discuss and create with each of their students academic goals and together set actionable steps to reach these goals. Please continue to ask your child each day about his/or her goals and encourage continual work and persistence towards achieving these goals.
Through out this month, there are a number of events for you and your student. February we celebrate and honor, BLACK HISTORY month. All students are invited to participate in the Black History Month Art & Essay Contest. This year's theme is "I'm Me and I'm Magnificent". Please look for more specific below and flyers coming home.

Helping Children Solve Small Problems
Kelso's Choice is a conflict-management system that ties into Cooper's school-wide efforts to support positive behavior and provide consistency and structure around it. Mrs. Ninham, our School Counselor shares this with all our students during her classroom weekly lessons. You will see posters throughout our building hallways and classrooms to help students make good decisions. You can even use this at your house!
Children are encouraged to pick one or two of nine "choices" when confronted with what is called a "small problem."
Visit the program's website to find resources for parents around using Kelso's Choice at school and at home.
