Don't let the Summer slide get you!

Summer Reading Bingo Card

All students at Bradfield who are currently in prek-4th grade received a summer reading bingo card on Tuesday, May 28th. These will be turned in to Mrs. Ray in August so that students can attend a party in the library. Parent feedback for the district said that parents disliked summer reading logs, so we use this as a fun alternative to encourage summer reading. Please let me know if you need extra bingo cards.

MyOn Reading Contest

Students can log on to https://www.garlandisd.net/content/ready-hub to access the MyOn program. There, students will find tons of free material to read and they will earn prizes for reading all summer long. Our school can even win prizes!

Public Library

The Garland public library will have a summer reading contest as well for children AND adults. There are also story times and crafts available for FREE at the public library. There is a local branch down the road called Walnut Creek Branch.

I want to give a special shout out to Mrs. Gonzalez who has been working to get someone from the library system to come to a family night to sign up parents and students for library cards, but so far we have been unable to get them on board. We hope to do this next year for sure.

Reading with Rodney

Reading with Rodney is the big purple mobile library. It will be coming around on Monday-Thursday in the summer time. You can check out the schedule here and I'll be on the bus the whole last week! Books can be returned to your school, the bus, or the Professional Development Center.

Bookmarks

There will be bookmarks in your boxes on Tuesday that the Library and Media Services department creates each year. They feature popular authors and series for each grade level. These are great to stick in report cards so that parents have some guidance for summer reading.

Summer Reading Book Packs

Students in prek, kinder, and 1st grades selected their own 5 books to have for summer reading. The book packs were passed out the last week of school. These books belong to the students and they keep them to enjoy.

Online Resources

There are many resources that students have access to at home during the summer. www.library.garlandisd.net is where they can use the library pages like Tumblebooks and PebbleGo. There are also ebooks for the students to read there. Benchmark Universe also has books for the students to read at home over the summer via Ready Hub.
