Principal Update

This is dedicated to my very special 8th grade students~

It is with a heavy heart that I send you this note as today we would have been at the final dance of the year, the 8th grade social. While this has been a right of passage as a close to your Arcola experience, please know that you have much to celebrate and be proud of. This year has taken us all on a journey, a road not traveled before and territory unknown to all. It is certainly a time that you will never forget and better yet will have gained strength, resilience, compassion and empathy. You have the power to do and be anything and you WILL be successful as you move onto the next chapter. Take the time to honor one another and stay connected. Do not be defined by moments rather learn to define them for you. Stay strong, stay true and no matter what...I hope you dance!

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance!

To All Parents of Incoming 7th- and 8th- Grade Students~

We hope your families are doing well. Please see the important items below regarding upcoming aspects of the scheduling process:

World Language:

If your child is entering 8th grade next year, a World Language will need to be selected for his/her schedule between Monday, June 1 and Friday, June 5. To assist with the selection, a brief “commercial” for each World Language (French, German and Spanish) can be viewed by clicking here: https://www.methacton.org/Page/19483

Students should follow the steps below to choose their World Language preferences in PowerSchool:

1. Log in to your PowerSchool account

2. Click “Class Registration” on the left-hand side of the screen

3. Look for the first listed subject area (World Language), then click the pencil icon in the top right corner

4. Click the World Language you are most interested in taking, then then click ‘OK’ in the bottom right corner

5. Look for Alternative World Language and click the pencil icon to the right

6. Click the World Language you would be interested in taking if your first choice is not available, then then click ‘OK’ in the bottom right corner

7. If you did everything correctly, you should see all green checkmarks on the screen. Finally, click ‘Submit’ in the bottom right corner to submit your selections – VERY IMPORTANT!

Scheduling Process/Update for All:

On Thursday June 18, the PowerSchool parent portal will become accessible for all parents to view the courses planned for their student(s) next school year (denoted “class registration” in PowerSchool). Directions for accessing the parent portal – or creating an account – can be found by clicking this link: https://www.methacton.org/powerschool. Questions regarding these planned courses should be directed to Mr. Thompson, Arcola Assistant Principal, at gthompson@methacton.org, Mrs. Berardelli, Arcola 7th- grade Guidance Counselor, at sberardelli@methacton.org, or Mr. Mueller, Arcola 8th- grade Guidance Counselor, at mmueller@methacton.org no later than Thursday June 25, at which time access to the parent portal will be closed.

We want to officially welcome our incoming grade 7 students to Arcola. Stay tuned as there will be much for us to share with you. Just know that we are here for you and are excited to have you join the Arcola Adventure.
