Friday, January 6th
From the Principals' Offices
It's been another great week at Brookwood as we welcomed back our students and staff from Winter Break. There are several exciting events on the horizon so please be sure to review our upcoming events (listed below). Semester 2 is also almost upon us - only five days left of Semester I! We're looking forward to working together with students and families to finish the first half of the year on a strong note.
As a reminder, please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather as we are sure to have some ice cold days up ahead. Families in need of winter gear (hats, mittens, coats etc.) for their children may contact the main office at your child's school.
Have a great weekend, Mustangs!

What a great first week back after break! The Mustangs played hard Wednesday and beat Lakewood in both the A and B games. The Mustangs also played Yorkville at home on Thursday, and played hard but ultimately lost both games. It was exciting to see the teams working together, playing tough, and having some success!!
Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming announcement regarding Saturday Morning Basketball, which will start the first Saturday in February. This is an exciting opportunity for our younger Mustangs, grades K - 5th, to get involved and start learning the game! An informational blast and a registration form will go out next week.
Go Mustangs!

OLD NEWS, BUT GOOD NEWS...
BMS MAP Winter Testing
Thank you for your ongoing partnership with us as we work to support ALL students to “Grow into Greatness.” In the coming weeks, students in grades 4-8 will be participating in the second of our triannual Measure of Academic Progress [MAP] test. MAP assessments are used to measure a student's growth over time in the areas of Mathematics, Reading, and Language Usage. Our staff uses the results of MAP tests, in conjunction with class level assessments and teacher input, to design academic supports and enrichments for students. Your student’s performance on this assessment does not affect any of his/her course grades, but it is very important to us from a programming standpoint. Please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Franz if you have any additional questions regarding MAP.

Boxtops
We need your help to get more families to support the Box Tops program. The more people that participate, the more our school can earn to help get the supplies it needs!
PLUS, you can earn a bonus for our school by inviting your friends, family, and other parents to sign up and participate in Box Tops.
To refer friends to sign up, go to the Invite Friends section of the Box Tops app. (You can get there by tapping on the person icon in the upper-right corner of the app home screen.) You'll get a referral code that you can send to a friend. You'll BOTH earn Bonus Box Tops for our school when they scan their first receipt — that's extra cash that counts towards our Box Tops earnings goal of $1,000 this year.
Thanks for your help!
Email the BFO at brookwoodfamily19@gmail.com with any questions regarding box tops.

Guth's Games is ON!
Academic Lab at BMS
Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.
At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.
Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.
Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.
The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).
Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.
