It's Time for Physics!
By Kellie Watts
AP Physics students were introduced to physics laboratory design and experimentation through their summer project. Their challenge was to build and execute a device that would accurately measure 10.0 seconds. Students brought their designs in on the first day of school with a complete self-constructed apparatus, lab procedure, data, analysis and conclusion. This is a great first project because it provides a lot of insight into how each student thinks, problem solves and deals with the setbacks of a challenge. AP Physics is a very rigorous course that will certainly encompass all of these components. The students who quickly learn from their mistakes and critically think to push through challenges will be successful. These students have impressed me with their work so far, and we are looking ahead to a great year!
Mega Middle School Fun!
By Johnny Griffin
Our Mega Relay was an exciting way to kick-off the GWA 2022-23 school year! Our Mega Relay is a race between every class in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade to complete 14 different tasks! Each grade level has a “team winner” and there was also one overall champion! Every student in every class was involved in the events; a great time was had by all in this “fancy” relay race! We appreciate all of the GWA educators who helped us have an amazing start for our middle school.
Hunting for Vowels
Miss Henry’s first-grade class is learning about short vowels through fun, creative and engaging lessons. After reading “When the Alligator Came To Class” to her students, they searched the room for alligator feet shapes showing short vowel words. Next, students made their own alligator hats and wrote original stories about when the alligator visited Miss Henry’s class.
Apply for Your GOAL Tax Credit
The Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program is the result of the Education Expense Credit law, passed by Georgia’s elected officials in 2008. This program allows individuals and corporations to receive a dollar-for-dollar Georgia income tax credit for redirecting a portion of their state income tax payments to GOAL. The GOAL Program is a remarkable and important opportunity provided to Georgians by our elected officials.
GOAL uses these redirected funds to provide private school scholarships to qualified students transferring from a Georgia public school. Taxpayers can designate which school receives their redirected tax payments for scholarships, and as a GOAL partner, GWA is able to directly benefit from your redirected funds.
This is a proven opportunity that is a win-win-win for taxpayer donors, scholarship recipients, and our school community. By simply contributing to Georgia GOAL for a 100% Georgia income tax credit – in other words, by contributing with dollars you must spend anyway, you will help maximize financial aid funds available to the school to be used for tuition assistance for deserving families desiring a George Walton Academy education. George Walton Academy offers a quality afterschool program for students in K4 through sixth grade. This program offers a fun and safe environment for students after the normal school day ends. Click HERE to learn more.

Getting Creative
Each year, Mrs. Carver's lower school art students learn the importance of sketchbooks. Each student is presented a sketchbook to use for the school year. Students are encouraged to write and draw ideas in the sketchbook. Students love having this tool and it is a great way to express their creativity!
