Panther Prowl
Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings Panther Families!
With the first day of fall on September 22nd, we say good-bye to another warm summer, which also serves as another reminder of how quickly the school year seems to fly by. The first quarter will also be coming to an end in the next month, so let this also be a reminder to ensure ongoing communication with your student's teachers to increase the chances of sustained success for the remainder of the semester.
The next 3-day weekend for students is coming up as Friday, September 28th is a non-student attendance day. Instead, CNUSD high school teachers will be participating in a full day of professional development at Norco High School.
Here's your Panther Prowl for September 21, 2018. RAWR!!!
Proudly,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.,
Principal

Athletics
- Football: We have a bye week, so our next game will be on Friday, September 28th at Roosevelt HS as we begin Big VIII League play.
- Girls Golf: It was a tough week for our Panthers as our golf team fell short in consecutive matches against Riverside King on September 18th and Santiago on September 19th. There was a silver lining, however, as each player has been improving their score on a weekly basis leading to a positive mindset going into next week's contests.
- Girls Tennis: Our tennis team will take a short break from league play and compete in a tournament hosted by Marina High School on September 22nd.
- Girls Volleyball: After yesterday's (September 20th) loss to Norco HS at home, our girls hit the road for Arizona for tournament play. Good luck, Panthers!
- Boys Water Polo: Big VIII League opens on September 26th at Roosevelt HS for our back-to-back league champions!
- Cross Country: Our first all-league meet was held on September 19th at Eastvale Community Park. Suicide Prevention Month
- September is National Suicide Prevention Month. Although it is extremely important to address this year-round, this month highlights these issues and provides a time for mental health advocates, prevention organizers, survivors, allies, and community members to unite to promote suicide awareness. According to the Jason Foundation, which is dedicated to the prevention of the “Silent Epidemic” of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs that equip young people, educators/youth workers and parents with the tools and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth, shared that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for our youth ages 10-24 (2016, CDC WISQARS). Follow this link for more information: http://jasonfoundation.com/
Counselors, teachers, administration, clerks, custodians, parents, adults, and friends are in a key position to notice signs and to reach out to get help. Awareness and education are the first steps to prevention. Suicide is preventable. It is important to know the Warning Signs:
--Increased alcohol and drug use
--Aggressive behavior
--Social withdrawal from friends, family and the community
--Dramatic mood swings
--Talking, writing or thinking about death
--Impulsive or reckless behavior
--Giving away important possessions
--Feeling unbearable pain (emotional pain or physical pain)
--Talk about being a burden to others
--Warning Signs and Risk of Suicide: https://www.nami.org/Learn-More/Mental-Health-Conditions/Related-Conditions/Risk-of-Suicide
If you believe someone is in danger of committing suicide or has a made a suicide attempt, get emergency help:
