The Month of LOVE!
February is here!
We are busy at BCMS with elite instruction!
Ms. Mattos, our instructional technology specialist, has created Black Histroy BreakOUT sessions that all our of scholars are accessing through Social Studies! The scholars are loving the learning in the breakOUTS! Our ELA and Social Studies teachers will begin planning together to "double dose" our ELA standards and integrate them into our social studies! We are excited to see the elite lessons they create!
We also celebrated World Read A Loud Day at BCMS this week! I was very proud of the scholars in 8th grade who volunteered with me to make this happen! Reading is such a powerful habit and even if middle schoolers don't love reading now, there is a good chance they will love it as a grown up if we foster it's greatness and plant those seeds.
All this week, Candy Grams will continue to be on sale. Friday is $1.00 hat day and next week we have a Valentine's Day Dance on Wednesday after school.
Soccer is in full swing and track starts this week! Golf call outs are also this week and we are excited to kick off our first Middle School golf team! Girls on the Run also begins this week and Ms. George is excited to get the team together.
This week is also National School Counseling week. We are so lucky to have an ELITE middle school counselor, Ms. George, and an ELITE HS/MS counselor, Ms. Freeman. The work they do to make sure our middle level learners are taken care of is OUTSTANDING and I am proud to have them in our schoolhouse!
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! I have found some glitches with the REMIND and some parents have signed up for the one I use for teachers and staff. I have removed you from that REMIND, so please make sure you are still linked in to the one that is called BCMS Community. The link is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Notes from Ms. Raeburn -
Kindness RULES!
In February, my notes section will focus on the work we are doing at BCMS to promote Kindness!
Social Emotional Learning isn't a class, because it is on-going! It happens all the time! From the time the feet walk into our school building or when they step on the bus, every person has the chance to make (or break) someone's day. This month, we are incredibly focused on the "golden rule"-- treating each other as we wish/want to be treated. That includes on social media as well. Please make sure if your child has a cell phone or laptop, you are monitoring what they are posting on texts, SNAP Chat, Twitter, and INSTAgram. We have to promote kindness in our face to face interactions as well as our cyber interactions.
We are so lucky at BCMS to have an elite school counselor who works with our scholars DAILY on the importance of being kind, smiling, working through problems by talking, and helping each other out. At BCMS, we truly are a family. If you are have social / emotional concerns about your child, please reach out to us. We can sometimes have a quick lunch bunch conversation or take a walk around the campus and get to the root of the issue.
The middle years are awesome! You have a FAMILY of elite educators at BCMS who are ready and able to support!
Other notes:
Teachers completed SAFETY NETS this week. If your child is earning an "F" in any class, they should have contacted you. SAFETY NETS are a great way for us to stay on top of where scholars are in regards to their formative and summative assessments. If you have questions, please contact your child's teachers!
Please take time to recognize someone at BCMS who has made a difference in your child's life. The form is below!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
Girls on the Run is back!
