Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families- With a full week under our belt- students and staff have settled nicely into our school routine. Building a consistent routine is important in our school world and helps reduce some of the stress that comes with uncertainty. I’m curious how it has been going at home for you all? Are the kids winding down at the end of the night and getting to bed at a decent time? Are they getting off their devices at least 30 minutes before going to bed so their brain is more prepared to sleep? After a summer break and staying up later and getting up later, it is an adjustment for us all.
Our students’ schedules can be even more extreme so as they adjusted this week, there was a lot of talk about being tired! At the same time, our kids still rally and find the energy to get their work done, be involved with activities, and maintain a positive attitude!
When I write this newsletter, I often hide away in an empty office, classroom, or coat closet because it gives me a few uninterrupted minutes to reflect on the week and more. My mind drifted back to a year ago and what it was like in the building and how it compares to today. One thing that stands out in my mind is the difference between wearing a mask and not wearing a mask. To me, the most powerful human expression is a SMILE. Even research supports the positive effects it has on yourself and certainly on others. I wonder how many tens-of-thousands of smiles were lost over those seven months? I wonder how that may have impacted individuals as well as our total social community. The good news is, WE’RE BACK BABY! Doubling down on every opportunity to generate smiles and laughter and joy! I’m a believer in – “Work Hard, Play Hard.” (sometimes I use- “work hard, play harder…!). I believe you can have both in your personal and work/school setting.
We’ve had a great week of hard work and opportunities to laugh and enjoy our time together. This is the building blocks for our Ridgeline Culture and who we want to be!
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
I have included the parking lot entering and exiting tips with a couple new additions. A lot of the hiccups could be avoided if EVERYONE who picks up a student utilized the valet feature. Stopping or parking along the route is dangerous and disrupts the natural flow. Please share this info with friends and family members who may not be on our email list but assist with your transportation. Thank you!
Drivers and Drop-offs:
1. BE PATIENT
2. NEW: Please do not park and wait for students along the North lane that runs parallel to the front of the building. Particularly between the Henry Lane entrance and the roundabout. You should only stop there if you are waiting your turn to enter the roundabout. If you do not pull forward into the roundabout and a car passes you this blocks traffic exiting to the East. People should not have to wait behind you and it is dangerous for our children to be walking across the lane when people are driving in unpredictable manners.
3. NEW: Even though there are no yield signs on the roundabout, you should still yield to a vehicle in the roundabout. It is ok to pause and allow others into the roundabout if you notice a significant back up. For example, you’re coming in from the light and notice the student exit hasn’t moved because they can’t get in the roundabout.
3. Budget 10-15 minutes extra in the morning to get students here on time.
4. Please do not block the roundabout at any point. Please do not stop or park in the roundabout.
5. Please do not block other parking lot entrances or exits.
6. Please do not block cross-walks
Always pull forward as far as possible in the valet loop.
Be mindful of students walking between cars (they will do that), and I don’t recommend picking up your child on the road where they have to be in traffic or you have to stop traffic. I watched some kids get into moving cars on the first day
