The CSP Spelling Bee will be held on January 12 at 8:30. All Middle School students will be in attendance to watch the top 25 spellers compete for the CSP Spelling Bee crown. That one winner will advance to the County Spelling Bee with a chance to advance to the national Spelling Bee, which will be televised live on ESPN in the spring. Parents are welcome to attend!

If you have an 11th-grade student, Mr. VanDyke from Josten's will be here on January 26, from 11:00 - 11:15 am, to discuss the process of ordering class rings. This is the only opportunity for students to meet with Josten's representative.

If you have a 12th-grade student, Mr. VanDyke from Josten's will be here on January 26, from 11:15 - 11:30 am, to discuss ordering their cap/gown, graduation announcements, and other senior-related items.

Please make arrangements for your child to attend this meeting even if it is not a scheduled time for them to be in school. Students must purchase a cap and gown to participate in the graduation ceremony.

• Please ensure your child brings their fully charged issued device to school with them daily.
• CSP no longer issues loaner devices for those students who leave their Chromebooks at home. It is the responsibility of the student to bring the required materials to school daily. Not doing so can hurt their academics.
• CSP can no longer afford to issue loaner devices due to the excessive number of damaged and/or lost devices.
• If your child loses or damages their device, restitution must be paid before receiving a replacement device. Parents can make payments online by visiting www.mycsp.org, clicking on the CLF tab, and then the Chromebook Replacement/Repair Fee tab. Once payment has been made, email a copy of your receipt to bgrantham@mycsp.org.

• CSP is discussing with the bus company the possibility of adding a sixth bus to our transportation schedule next school year.
• We will need at least 290 students utilizing bus transportation to secure the sixth bus.
• A sixth bus will allow us to service more areas and provide more seat availability.
• Due to increased fuel costs and bus driver salary, which CSP has paid for the past year and a half, transportation costs will increase by $100 per student next school year.

• Review the ROAR schedule with your student. Have them sign up for Content Support on the available days rather than going to their club.
• Check PowerSchool every Tuesday evening. Make it a family event.
• Email teachers whenever you have a question about an assignment.
• Monitor your child's BrightSpace page.
• Review your child's assignments before they submit them to their teacher.
• Contact the School Counselor if you want to schedule an appointment with your child's teacher(s).

Please join me on Wednesday, January 25, from 9:00 - 11:00 am for our second Donuts with the Principal event. I would love to get to know parents and stakeholders. The discussion topic will be transportation, the master schedule, the Maryland Blueprint, and parental engagement. I will also hear your concerns, ideas, feedback, and general thoughts on how to better CSP. This is on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 50 parents that RSVP.

Hello Students and Families!

The New Year is a time when we often set goals and plan routines that can best support our goals. I know that all of us want our children to be the very best students they can be. I want to remind you that on Mondays, during ROAR period, students participate in an Administrative Homeroom period-- this is time that can help your children reach their goals. During this period, students are presented with a short "Solid Student Skill" lesson, which covers topics like organization, note-taking, etc. They then work through a routine of examining their grades and assignments and are encouraged to plan and take action-- like signing up for content support or making a weekly study schedule-- based on their findings.

Monday afternoons would be a great time for you to follow up and discuss your child's progress and upcoming work with them. We appreciate your continued support and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Attention eighth-grade parents/guardians:

Chesapeake Science Point and Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) have a partnership for the Early College Access Program (ECAP), allowing students to take college courses while in high school. CSP also has a unique partnership where selected students work toward a college Associate Degree throughout high school, earning 60 college credits through AACC classes and AP credits.

Candidates for this very selective program are considered during the spring of students’ eighth-grade year at CSP. Administrators, counselors, and teachers review student data and discuss individual student ability to complete college-level and AP courses.

AACC requires a strict limit of 22 students for this program, making it extremely selective. The selection procedures will begin in February, and parent contact will occur once the review process is completed.

Students and families do not need to request consideration for this program, and all eighth-grade students will be reviewed and considered for the Associate Degree program.

Students not chosen for the selective Associate Degree program are still eligible to take individual AACC courses through the ECAP program. These opportunities are usually possible in students’ junior and senior years.

Yearbook Recognition Ads are the perfect way to commemorate achievements and celebrate milestones such as graduating from middle and high school. In addition, revenues from Recognition Ads help our school create a better yearbook. To purchase your ad online, follow the instructions on the flier below. Jostens is responsible for our school's yearbook ad sales. Please do not contact or send materials to the school. Please also consider our school's ad content guidelines found on the flier while creating your ad online.

Hi CSP Parents, Please see below regarding details on Chesapeake Science Point's NO REPEAT policy. If you have questions and/or concerns regarding this matter, please reach out to your child's school counselor. CSP continues to provide a rigorous and quality education to all students. It has always been our goal to improve upon past practices, find new ways to engage students, and make learning something students enjoy. We also believe that high school students need to put forth that same effort in order to become successful adults; therefore, CSP is Repeat Free. If a student receives an E in a required high school course, the class will have to be repeated in an alternate program such as summer school, evening school, and twilight school. These programs are available for students to make up credits in courses that they were not successful in the first time; classes at CSP are for students taking them for original credit. If a student does not make up the failed class in one of these alternative programs, there is a chance that we will not be able to schedule the student for the classes required for graduation and the student will have to take classes at CSP for more than four years.

Any student who wishes to receive high school credit for any dual credit AACC class they have taken must present an official transcript from AACC to their counselor. The Registrar’s Office at AACC can assist you with obtaining an official transcript. If you have any questions, please contact your counselor.

In addition to it being a requirement, colleges and universities receive thousands of applications every year. The scores on the SAT and ACT allow them to narrow down the playing field and make decisions on acceptance. In addition to your college applications, your SAT and ACT scores can be used to apply for scholarships. These are sometimes merit based scholarships, granted directly from your choice of college during the application process. Others may be from local, state, or regional programs where your grades, academic achievements, and score affect your eligibility. We wanted to stress the importance of taking the SAT and/or ACT more than once. Studies show that students typically receive a higher score the second time they sit for the test. It would be most beneficial to take the SAT and/or ACT your junior year, then again your senior year. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you qualify for a fee waiver. The counselors have them available in their offices. See your counselor with any additional questions.
