A Note from Dr. Hooks
Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,
Yesterday, Mayor Bowser announced that DC Public Schools we will start the 2020-2021 school year with a virtual learning model. This virtual learning model will apply to all students and will proceed through at least the first academic term, August 31, 2020-November 6, 2020.
In an effort to support families in preparing for virtual learning, I have provided a timeline below, with the understanding that the timeline may shift, based on DCPS guidance.
· July 31, 2020: The Hybrid Learning Task Force held its first convening. ~ Thank you to the team of parents and staff, who participated in this insightful working session. There was great feedback, operational suggestions and actionable next steps. Your dedication is appreciated.
· August 3-6, 2020: The Hyde-Addison Leadership Team will participate in the DCPS Summer Leadership Institute, next week, where we will be provided with greater details and guidelines around the Mayor’s announcement on the virtual learning experience.
· August 7, 2020: The Hyde-Addison ES Team will share applicable updates in the weekly newsletter. If scheduling information is available, it will be provided. Virtual learning supply lists will also be provided. Previous general supply lists are available on the Hyde-Addison website, https://www.hydeaddisondc.org/supplies.
· August 10-14, 2020: Class lists will be shared with families. Cohort determinations and supplemental information may also be shared, as applicable.
· August 14, 2020: Differentiated Virtual Family Orientations will be held and virtual learning expectations will be shared.
You may review this link, dcpsreopenstrong.com/schedule, shared by Chancellor Ferebee, to see an example of what a virtual learning experience could encompass. As shared above, families will receive guidance around the Hyde-Addison ES specific schedules, within the coming weeks. Student schedules will include live lessons with their teachers, small group learning, and independent work time.
In general, Canvas, our online, common learning management system, will be used by teachers and students to keep learning at home resources in one place. Canvas allows students to see daily and weekly schedules and keep track of assignments all in one place. From learning materials to Microsoft Teams live lesson links, everything will be on Canvas, as applicable.
Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force
Thank you to the Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force, who also met with me, today. This team of parents and staff have truly committed to supporting our school community around this equity, anti-racism and social justice work. Please look out for future engagement opportunities shared by this team. This work is essential to our growth, as a school community.
Summer Bridge
The Hyde-Addison ES Summer Bridge team will be sharing information with registered families, early next week, regarding the program, expectations and a Virtual Summer Bridge Information Session to be held on August 7, 2020.
Please keep you and your loved ones safe. Continue to follow the guidance of Mayor Bowser and DC Health. For resources and information about the District of Columbia Government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response and recovery efforts, please visit coronavirus.dc.gov.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. Calvin Hooks, Principal
