CalWORKs KID'S KORNER!
January - February 2021
Dear CalWORKs Family,
The start of our new year wasn't the fresh start we had hoped for. Yet, this new year is beginning to fare much better with our new leadership, vaccine distributions and an overall feeling of HOPE for a brighter 4+ years ahead in our country.
Let's keep the faith, while we continue to show empathy and kindness towards one another.
Sincerely,
Holly Mulligan
CalWORKs Counselor

Yummy to my tum!
Dip marshmallows, rice kipsies, strawberries, bananas, sponge cake, pretzels, cuties/mandarin oranges, the list is endless!!
Do you need random ideas to keep your kids busy?
A box, yes a box!!
This particular box was crafted into a dog house, which the dogs didn't even bother with :-)
50, yes 50 Indoor Activities that are LOW PREP!
How do puzzles help kids?
Puzzles are INVALUABLE in the way they help our children and give them so much learning goodness in just a little bitty box.
Click on the picture or title to find out why!
K, now what about things to do outside?
If you can get out, take a hike, no pun intended!
We happened to see a snake, first time ever on a hike seeing one. This one must've just eaten, because it was sluggish and slithering super slowly.
Keep your eyes peeled!

HELPFUL TIPS FOR YOUR SNOW DAY
- Organize everything the night before. Like put everything by the front door.
- BUT, make sure you have the necessities ahead of time, NOT the night before.
- Fill your gas tank up the night before too.
- Leave the house by 7:00am/7:30am, Frazier Park turns away non-residents, when it becomes too crowded. Wrightwood runs out of the $5.00 day passes by 10:15am, then you'll have to buy the $25 yearly pass, because you drove all the way up there and you want to play in the snow! The store opens at 10:00am. SO MY POINT IS, LEAVE THE HOUSE EARLY.
- WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Snow chains, most likely Caltrans won't have you install them, they just wanna know you have them for an in-case type situation.
- Mittens (better than gloves, you can scoop up snow real good)
- Snow pants, water-resistant jacket, snow boots or rain-boots with warm socks
- Beanie and possibly a scarf - bring it just in case (all this stuff can be borrowed from friends, family OR purchased cheaply on FB Marketplace) - I am not telling you where to buy your items, it is merely an inexpensive way to go AND kids grow out of stuff fast!
- A sled. They jack up the prices at those mountain snow stores, so do yourself a favor and buy ahead of time.
- A chair or a water-proof blanket, because you're gonna get tired hiking up and down that hill with the sled. Relax at some point with your hot-chocolate...
- HOT CHOCOLATE - bring a huge thermos or stainless steel LARGE cup to hold enough for you and the family
- Lunch AND Snacks, you'll probably be there 3-hours, you're gonna get hungry
- Change of clothes and blankets, I promise your drive home will be heavenly, because you won't be freezing in your wet winter clothes
- SAVE snacks and possibly hot chocolate for the ride home! Everyone's gonna be hungry. Or better yet, stop at McDonald's, because their hot-chocolate is BOMB.
Send OC CalWORKs pics, please. We wanna see your family fun!!
So, where do you go for snow?
SEE PICS BELOW FOR MORE DETAILS.
Frazier Park: 1.5 hours away, down the Grapevine. Sometimes the Grapevine is closed, so look online at: http://www.frazmtn.com/fmcoc/snowcond.htm

Mountain Hardware info continued...
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT attempt to park without a parking pass, the lady at the grocery store 2 doors down from Mountain Hardware (we had to go there to get that expensive parking pass) said the rangers are giving out tickets like candy. Those were her words, not mine.
