Principal's Message
Dear Springer Families,
We have been working on our Character Education this year, refining the great practices that we already teach our children. In an earlier newsletter I shared that we are consolidating our Character Education message to three central themes. They are:
Filling Each Other’s Buckets
Having a Growth Mindset
Being an Upstander
The Character Education team has also been working on Schoolwide Expectations for our children to embrace and practice each day. They are:
BEE Respectful
BEE Responsible
BEE Safe
BEE Courageous
This month we have been introducing one of these expectations each week to include classroom discussions/activities,morning assembly skits, and the drawing of our BEE Awesome tickets. Our children receive these acknowledgements, from an adult, for demonstrating one of the 4 Bees. They are then entered into a random drawing that happens every two weeks. Their names are announced over the intercom. They come to the office for me to acknowledge their great example and to also receive a little token of appreciation.
So, if you hear your child using this language, we would appreciate your encouragement and praise. Aren’t our kids great? !!!
Community Meeting on April 22 at Springer
Dear Springer Families,
You may have heard about the proposed long term agreement with Bullis Charter School for facilities. To read a summary of the agreement, click here. To read the full agreement visit, the April 8 presentation to the board on the agreement and a history of the facilities disputes with BCS, visit our district website’s BCS facilities page here.
In order to ensure a transparent and robust public input process, there will be meetings at all of our school sites with LASD Trustees and Superintendent Baier. There will be a community meeting at Springer on April 22, at 6 p.m., in the MPR.
While years of deliberation informed the proposed agreement, the Board of Trustees invites you to share any of your own ideas for a long term agreement with us. Any plan requires a process to envision building a successful educational future for our students and our school district would like you to be part of that process.
Sincerely,
Robin Robinson and the Springer PTA Board

Request For Art Show Volunteers
The Springer End of Year Art Show is on Thursday, April 11th from 6-8 pm in the Multi.
I am looking for volunteers to help to hang and take down over 500 pieces of artwork that the kids have created this year. I am planning to hang the show on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These are the times that I will be working in the multi:
- Tuesday, April 9th: 8:30am - 2:00pm
- Wednesday, April 10th: 10:30am - 2:30pm
- Thursday, April 11th: 8:30 am until we are finished
The classes will do a walk through on Friday morning from 8:30 am - 10:10 am. I have to take down the artwork after the kids have had a chance to see their work, so I will need help in the multi on:
Friday, April 12th from 10:30 am - noon
Any amount of time you can give would be wonderful! Please let me know if and when you would be able to help.
I would greatly appreciate your assistance!! Please email at the below email if you can help.
All the best,
Lisa Martinez

The 59th LASD Junior Olympics is Coming!
The 2019 Junior Olympics will be held on Saturday, April 27. Please fill out the online JO Participation Form by Monday, April 2. Students will not be able to participate in JO unless this form has been submitted.
We need this form to be submitted for every 4th-6th grade student. If you are unsure of your plans at this point, please mark your student(s) as attending.
The students have begun training for all of the Junior Olympic events during PE classes. They will begin selecting their events soon. Event selection will take place during PE class. We always encourage each student to select 3 events, even if he/she is not planning on attending. Should your plans change, we are NOT able to add events at the last minute.
If online access to this form is an issue, hard copy forms (in English and Spanish) are available in the Springer office.
For more detailed information about the LASD Junior Olympics, please click here.

Health Notice
Dear Parents,
Due to cold and flu season, our nursing staff has now instated the 48-hour rule. If your child has an oral temperature of 99.6 or higher, he/she will need to stay home for 48 hours (fever free without fever-reducing medication), before returning to school. They should also be well enough to participate in school activities before returning.
Sometimes it's difficult, especially early in the morning, to know whether or not to send your child to school. Click here for guidelines to help you make your decision. Also, click here for flu tips from the Santa Clara County of Health.
Pertussis Booster for Students in 6th Grade
Students currently in 6th grade must have proof of a Tdap or Dtap (Pertussis or Whooping Cough) booster given after their 7th birthday in order to begin 7th grade in August of 2019. Please provide a copy of your child’s immunization record to your school office as soon as possible!
Please refer any questions regarding this requirement to our District Staff: Clare Luna 302-1448 and Sandy Anderson 302-1449.
Thank you for your cooperation!

LAEF
Double your Donation
LAEF still needs to raise $148,000 to fully fund our 2018-19 grant to LASD. Every dollar you give by April 26th, before Junior Olympics, will be matched by two anonymous LASD families, up to $6,500. They have generously offered this challenge to inspire you to help us reach our goal of 100% participation from every LASD family. Let's all work together and fully fund teachers and staff for STEM, Wellness, Literacy, and Arts for the 2018-19 school year.
If you have yet to donate, now’s the time! Donate at LAEFonline.org or drop off a check in your school office.
