Assistance from the Assistant Principal
Up next in the series explaining policy and procedure changes: ABSENCES.
“Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom.” This quote by Oprah Winfrey really sums up how important education is to a child’s future. To grow and unlock knowledge, it is crucial for kids to be in school! Every day. If they are truly sick, keep your children home. . .but if they are well, please send them!
Our new attendance policy can be found on page 5 of the CES Student Handbook. Here is an overview:
Absences are certified if you have a medical/dental appointment and submit documentation within 48 hours. Absences are also certified if the school nurse sends your child home or if there is a death in the family. Other than that, almost all absences are considered uncertified.
At 6 uncertified absences, we will make contact with you. At 9 uncertified absences, we will request a conference. At 12 uncertified absences, we will contact DCS and Carroll County Probation and Prosecutor’s Office for guidance. Every absence after 12 will result in one after-school detention. This is to allow time for makeup work. If your child reaches 18 uncertified absences, he or she will have missed 10% of the school year! We may expel students or retain them in these instances.
We would much prefer that your children come to school to participate, learn, play, and grow! Get them here. . .they’re worth it. Their futures depend upon it!
It's Time for the Book Fair! October 3rd-11th
Your child will be visiting the Book Fair during their scheduled library time the week of October 3rd. The Book Fair will be open during Parent/Teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 11th.
We also welcome you to shop online at: www.scholastic.com/bf/carrollelementaryschool4 Share the link with family and friends! All purchases from the Book Fair benefit our school!
Cafeteria Procedures
Positive behavior is stressed in the dining room as it is throughout the school. Conversational talking will be permitted with those seated at the same table. Simple rules of respect and manners will be observed. This would include walking to and from the table, staying seated while eating, cleaning up after yourself, etc.
There is to be NO pop or soft drinks to be consumed during lunch time. Fruit drinks are acceptable. Trading food from child to child has proven to be unsanitary and will not be allowed.
Guidance Information
Mrs. Skinner will be going around to each classroom presenting information on what is and is not bullying, how to handle conflict vs. bullying, how to report it, and much more!
We will also be celebrating Red Ribbon week Oct. 24-28! Red Ribbon week is promoted each year to educate and encourage students to live a life drug free! We will have our SRO, Officer Beaver available to help promote and encourage this program as well!
