April will bring many song filled days! Our Spring Concert featuring 7/8 Singers and our Show Choir, Showsies, was FABULOUS! Our annual All School Music Assembly is on Friday, April 28! After the assembly the 7/8 Singers and Showsies will board a bus to spend the day performing at our local elementary schools: Carpenter, Field, and Franklin. They will stop by Portillo's for lunch! The field trip form is attached!

8:15 Meet in MPR for Assembly. Sit in the middle with the 7/8 Singers

10:00 Meet in the MPR to warm-up for the field trip

10:20 Leave for Franklin

10:40 - 11:10 Perform at Franklin

11:20 Portillos for Lunch - Bring money for lunch

12:45 Leave for Field

1:05 - 1:35 Perform at Field

1:50 - 2:20 Perform at Carpenter

2:30 Return to Emerson

In the first week of May we our singing groups will compete in the Music in the Parks Festival.

We also learned this week that District 64's General Music and Instrumental Departments were awards national -recognition for "Best Communities for Music!! 🎶 Mrs. Broeker

There are a handful of extra t-shirts available to purchase. If you do not have a shirt, bring a check written to Emerson Middle School for $12.00. Shirts will be worn at our concert next week, our field trip, and at the Music in the Parks competition.

Saturday, May 6, 2023 Great America Music in the Parks Festival

Our Music in the Parks contest is May 6th, 2023 all day

If your student is in band and/or orchestra, students will able to perform with all groups and students will only pay one fee. Band and Orchestra Members pay by check. New this year, Chorus members who are not in any other ensemble pay in School Bucks. Both 7/8 Singers and Showsies will compete! I coordinate with the Band and Orchestra directors to make sure that our times do not overlap. All of our competitions meet at the same school, Viking Middle School.

Our Itinerary for Singers who are NOT in BAND or ORCHESTRA:

All Singers who perform with the Band and Orchestra will meet us at Viking Middle School.

They will ride with their Band or Orchestra to Great America.

They will return to Emerson with their Band or Orchestra group!

8:45 am Meet at Emerson Bus is leaving at 9:00 a.m.

After we compete students may choose to go to Great America with us. Students who do not want to attend Great America will need to arrange transportation home. The fees in School Bucks reflect the different options.

This is activity is optional, but a great singing and performance opportunity for students. We sing/perform for collegiate choral professors and they give us feedback and possibly a trophy.

Great America does not accept Cash Payments for Food! Students need a debit card, credit card, or gift card to purchase food in the parks.

The Great America Letter is also the Music in the Parks Permission Slip!

The Music Theater Workshop Class transferred to the MPR this week to start blocking their scenes! During Music 6, students continued playing melodies on xylophones and boomwhackers. They are also learning how to create and notate a melody. In Keyboard Class students performed songs with chords, including the iconic "Heart and Soul" duet. The Vocal Power Singers performed Jazz songs!

We need to upgrade our sixteen year old sound system. Six of our microphone units are no longer useable. We are switching to a digital microphone system that will prevent feedback and improve the quality of sound. We will also be able to use rechargeable batteries which will be a huge savings. We use our Sound System for the Musical, Vocal Power, and Music Theater Workshop classes as well as additional performances. Please participate in our fundraisers whenever possible! THANK YOU ALL. Special thanks to Donna Zorba-O'Brien and Tina Serio for organizing the Dine to Donate at D'Agostino's Pizza and Pub Niles! D'Agostino's is donating 15% of all sales from Tuesday, March 7!

In the past, Leads have written a note to the next person to play their role. They give advice on how to portray the character, handle performance jitters, and reminisce on their favorite moment. Keep the tradition going! Return your script so that future productions will have additional scripts!
