Staff of the Week
Mrs. Guiles is in her first year teaching here in Verona. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. She then went on to study at MSU, MSSU, and OTC, where she has a business and marketing degree. One of her great achievements was having some of her middle school kids invite her to their graduation. Although Mrs. Guiles considers Verona part of her family, she has a big family of her own. She has four older boys, ages 23, 20, 20, and 19, and she has her husband Doug. If she wasn’t a teacher here, she would either be making pottery, or she would be a train engineer. On her days off of work, she loves going to auctions and spending money. She loved the opportunity she got when she was able to see Garth Brooks.
Student of the Week
Riley Olan Carey gets along with nearly everyone at Verona. He treats everyone kindly and is a hit with the ladies. After high school, Riley plans on becoming a police officer. Every day, he gets to come home to his mom, dad, two sisters, and his cat Maggie. Riley enjoys going to the gym and playing basketball. There’s a lot of things that Riley likes about Verona, but a couple things stand out: the fact that everyone knows each other, everyone supports one another, and the teachers, most notably Mrs. Guiles. He really dislikes Verona’s new no backpack rule.
