Saxton Newsletter 10.6.22

We would like to thank all the parents who helped to tidy our woodland wildlife area before half term. Thanks also to Fields Garden Centre who kindly donated plants and compost. The area is looking much better, and Sycamore Class are embarking upon a project this half term to make further improvements. We can’t wait to see how it develops!

If your family plans to take a holiday during term time it is important that you apply for a leave of absence using the school form. This ensures that we will not ring you every day to find out where the children are, because we need to assure ourselves that they are safe. Please note that applications for holidays of any sort will normally be declined as a matter of course because the government guidance to schools clearly states that holidays should not be regarded as exceptional circumstances.

We understand that sometimes children need to have medical appointments during the school day. Please inform the office of these and provide a copy of your medical appointment, eg copy of the text confirmation or email etc.

We have a vacancy for a parent governor, more information will be coming out in due course. If you might be interested in being nominated and want to find out more information please speak to Mr Weights.

On Friday 1st July we will be holding a Book Swap day. We are inviting children to come to school dressed in an outfit that represents any word (e.g. 'spotty' or 'blue') in return for a donation of 3 books that they have finished reading and £1. We will use the books and money to create a book swap facility on the playground.

We are looking forward to holding a KS2 production again this year. This will take place in the church on the evening of 12th July.

Our ‘Open Classrooms’ event when you can come into school to see your child’s work will take place after school on Wednesday 13th July.

Summer Fair

The FOSS summer fair will take place on Friday 15th July. We have lots of stalls and activities planned! We are collecting donations for a raffle/ tombola and will be asking for donations of cakes nearer the time.

Save the date!

The FOSS Barn Dance will take place on Saturday 15th October at Barkston Ash Village Hall. Tickets will be £15.

AGM

The FOSS AGM will be held in school on Wednesday 7th September at 7pm and everyone is welcome.

Please remember to keep checking the calendar regularly, as there will be a lot happening in school. We are planning to hold a production for parents, done by KS2 children, there will be a transition day for new classes, an end of year service in church, and other events happening. Dates will be circulated in the news, but the calendar is always the best source of advance notice. This is available on the bottom of each Friday newsletter and on our website.

Children can decide daily whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch.

Please ensure you discuss the menu each day with your child so they can decide what they would like to order. Once they know their choices, they will choose this each morning with their teacher during registration.

Each day there are 4 choices, either the hot dinner, hot vegetarian option, jacket potato with a choice of toppings or a sandwich. The sandwich and jacket potato always come with a selection of vegetables/salad on the side and have the full pudding choice for that day.

Packed Lunches - if you are sending grapes in your child's packed lunch, can you please ensure that these are cut in half.

We are delighted to be able to have volunteers into schools again, and would welcome parents to help us. If you are able to give any time to us, either on an ad-hoc or regular basis, you will need to complete a DBS application. Please contact the office for more information.

Don’t forget that if you use Amazon Smile and have registered our school for donations, FOSS will receive a donation. This is a very quick and easy way to make money for our children, so please do remember to keep checking that your orders have been placed this way.

Help raise money for FOSS and label your children's school items. The soft plastic labels can be stuck on machine wash-care labels of clothes, but can also be used on shoes, dishwasher items and general school items.

Please be considerate when parking near the school crossing. If parked too close it can be very difficult to see if it is safe to cross, particularly at pick up time-thank you.
