News from the Principal- January 19th

Dear Families,

This week students have started taking their winter iReady diagnostic in reading and math. We are looking forward to seeing all the growth of all students on the assessment.

Parent Teacher Conferences are on for February 13th and 15th from 3:45 - 7:00 pm. Teachers will be sending home letters to schedule specific times for each family. Valentine's Day parties will be February 14th starting at 2:30 pm.

Lost and Found is collecting a lot of coats, sweaters, and hoodie. If your child has lost an article of clothing at school please have them look through both cafeterias lost found for their item.

Questions from the Classroom

Preschool: Look some of your favorite books. Can you find the letters Ff and Bb? How many did you find?

Kindergarten: What is the opposite of on, in, easy, hot, soft? Can you think of other opposites?

1st grade: What do the hands on a clock tell you? Which does each hand tell you? (The hands tell you the time of the day. The small hand is the hour hand and the big hand is the minute hand.) You can practice telling time to the hour and 1/2 with an analog clock. (if you have one or with the clock the students made in class and brought home last week)

2nd grade: Ask your 2nd grader what habitat his/her class is becoming an expert in. What are 3 facts you learned about your habitat this week? (Miller-rainforest, Kruse-grasslands, McKelvy-Patterson-forest, Dougherty-ocean, Boldridge-caves, Ervin-the arctic)

3rd grade: What is a simile? (a simile is a figure of speech in which two unlike things are explicitly compared using the words "like" or "as".)

4th grade: Describe one region of the United States other than the one you live in

5th grade: How do you convert units of measurement? (Determine if the unit you are converting to is larger or smaller, which determines if you should multiply or divide the number by the conversion amount.)
