CULINARY ARTS VISITS SMCC
This week, our culinary arts students visited SMCC, touring the Culinary building and campus. The students learned about options after high school. Because Maine Community Colleges are free to students, there are many opportunities for our students on the various campus. After visiting SMCC, our students were the guests at the Fork Food Lab in Portland.
Do you know the Fork Food Lab in Portland? The Culinary students do. We had an informational tour of the facility and a fantastic lunch there thanks to MELMAC! Fork Food Lab is a membership based shared kitchen with all the equipment needed for food production. As their motto states " We take the friction out of starting a food business". We heard from the owner of Greeks of Peaks Food Truck and Milk Bottle about what students needed to know to start a business. Finally, our students met with Chef Tony and toured his Totally Awesome Vegan Food Truck. Our students learned a lot about how to operate a food truck business.
