Pleasant Hope Middle School

Greetings PHMS families and students,

• We had a wonderful start to the 23-24 school year. I think everyone has finally memorized their new schedules, figured out how to use a lock, caught up with all their old friends, and made some new ones too. Please remind your student that we are not wearing pajama pants to school this year unless it is a designated spirit day. Thanks!

• Next week we have pictures on Friday. Please see the order link above. Our fall sport teams have all begun practices and games will begin in September. Come support our Pirate Nation! (Schedules Below)

• PTO is having a membership drive AND a fan gear sale. See the information below for more details.

• We are using the PBIS app this year. Feel free to download the app to keep up with the behavior rewards your student is earning each week. We strive to be safe, be responsible, and be respectful at PHMS everyday.

• Please know we are all her to support you and your family. Reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or needs. You are a very important part of our team here at PHMS.

What an amazing group of middle school students we have this year! Together we are going to make a difference-that's for sure! We are still looking a bit like the players in the video below, but I know by this time next week we will have it all figured out. :)

Our staff is reading a series of books titled "Hacking" and we are dedicating time daily for gratitude. I found a "Hacking" book for parents and thought I'd share some tidbits from each month with you along with the gratitude exercises we are using.

Raising children is a tough job. Raising middle school children may be considered the toughest around! :) I've spent my career in middle schools and have raised two of my own. Trust me, I understand the joys and the struggles of tweens and teens.

If you ever need me, I am here to lend an ear and please know we are ALL in this together, team! Breathe, smile, and remember we are here for you.

This year choose ONE milestone that you would like your child to reach. That could be "Becoming more independent with school work" or "Preparing for school/events the night before" or "Learning to help others in need"

Set up a plan and remember to Begin at the End. What is the end result, how will you and your child get there/what does this look like, and how will you chart success?

If by the end of the school year, your child has reached this milestone, you can celebrate their maturity and success! Choose only one thing and really focus on that. You'll be amazed how other milestones will be reached as well.

Make a slideshow of these pictures and look back on them when you are feeling down or need a boost from the tough times in life.
