THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS ITS PACK
January 26, 2024
Wasco Families,
Last Friday all Wasco students and staff gathered together for a Townhall. Together, we shared learning about the value of goal setting. We collectively read the book, Shoot for the Goal: The Justin Abdelkader Story. In our small groups, we discussed how to set goals, and we received important advice from a young video coach (linked below). We want students to understand the importance of setting goals and supporting others in their accomplishments. We encourage you to discuss the following steps from the video with your child:
Goal Setting:
Choose a goal.
Share the purpose of your goal.
Break the goal into simple steps.
Identify Obstacles.
During our assembly, I shared with the students my goal of learning to swim for fitness. I am up to 10 laps and I am counting on them to hold me accountable and cheer me on!

Academically Talented (AT) Program Updates
As we embark on the season of planning for the 2024-2025 school year, an identification process is underway for accelerated placement for next year’s 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Here is some helpful information:
All 3rd grade students are automatically considered for potential placement in Academically Talented (AT) Math and AT ELA programming. You do not need to request it. However, you can reach out to ask questions about the process anytime using the contact information below.
5th grade students are also automatically considered for potential placement in an additional Accelerated Math Pathway that starts in middle school. This pathway provides for the completion of Algebra before entering high school by allowing students to complete more than one grade level of math in 6th grade and 7th grade.
5th grade students who are currently in our AT programming may be identified for potential placement in the Infinity Gifted Program at the middle school level. These students may take part in additional testing in February. Parents will be informed in advance if additional testing is requested.
Families of students who are identified for placement in our AT Math, AT ELA, Infinity Gifted or Accelerated Math programming will be informed by March 1.
St. Charles Public Library Visit
This week our fourth graders spent time with a St. Charles Public Librarian so she could teach and show off STEAM kits available at the library. Need a little mid winter pick me up? Consider stopping by the library and exploring. I guarantee your kids will find some treasure!
- Earthquakes kits
- SCPL has a number of Spirographs for in-house programming use and one for checkout so that will be at a station as well
