Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission
A Message From Mrs. Gabriela Elliott, Campus Principal
Greetings Ravens! It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2023-24 school year; I am excited to begin what promises to be the beginning of something great. Our dedicated teachers worked diligently this week to welcome the return of our Raven Scholars, July 31, 2023.
I am honored and humbled to be serving you and working alongside each and every one of you, as we embark in a new journey together. I am beyond grateful to be in the community and get to know everyone.
Our theme for the new school year is "Greatness on The Horizon" and "Live The Mission". I am looking forward to starting something new and see it grow. We are destined for greatness and together, we will ensure that Eastlake Middle School is the best for our Scholars.
Parents, we know that it takes the commitment of both home and school for our students to reach their highest potential. As partners, we share the responsibility for our scholars’ success, and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our scholars. We ask that you guide and support your scholar’s in their learning by ensuring that he/she:
1. Attends school daily and arrives on time. School starts at 7:45am with grab and go breakfast. Class will begin promptly at 8:00am.
2. Completes all assignments/redo's
3. Reads daily to develop love for reading and to improve literacy skills, 15-20 minutes.
4. Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
5. Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
6. Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go to college.
The building opens for scholars at 7:30am at the west student drop off area, earlier for bus arrivals. Scholars will have grab and go breakfast and report directly to their classroom. We will have monitors in every hall supervising. Any students being dropped off before 7:30 need to enter through the front entrance and report to our Raven Cafeteria.
The wonderful Raven Staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this opportunity to open a new school with you all. With your support, we will continue to develop the very real gifts and talents of all of our scholars. Please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me or any of the Eastlake Middle School Staff, if you have additional questions. I will continue sending monthly and weekly newsletters through blackboard and post them on our school website, as well as twitter to keep you informed and involved throughout the school year. Also, please follow us on Twitter for daily highlights and announcements: @Eastlake_Middle. Welcome BACK!!!
Respectfully,
Gabriela Elliott, Proud Raven Principal

Capturing Kids Hearts - August Theme - Empathy
What is Empathy?
Empathy is the ability to be aware of, understand, and be sensitive to another person’s feelings. Instead of focusing on how these feelings impact ourselves, empathy motivates us to focus on others and respond with care and compassion.
Why focus on Empathy?
- Empathy builds positive classroom culture. Empathy empowers students to learn to understand each other to build trust and safety in the classroom.
- Empathy strengthens communities. Empathy helps students strengthen their relationships with classmates, other students, and adults at school, and at home.
- Empathy prepares your students to be leaders in their community. The best leaders understand the people they lead and are able to show they care.
Empathy in Action:
- Take a different perspective. When you take a different perspective, you put aside your own feelings and reactions to see the situation through another’s eyes.
- Put aside judgment. Take a pause, and rather than express conclusions about a situation based on what you see, step back and consider other things you may still need to know or understand.
- Communicate that you understand. Instead of giving advice, respond with reflective phrases like, “It sounds like you...” or “I hear that you...” to express that you understand and care.
Collective Commitments

Registration Documents: Get ready for the 2023-24 School Year
Returning Scholars:
- Continue to submit your registration documents (utility bill, copy of picture ID, vaccination records, etc.)
- ID's for Scholars will be distributed within the first two weeks of school. All students must wear their IDs and have them to ride the school bus.
Immunization Requirements
As our Raven Scholars return to school, it is very important that parents ensure that their child’s immunizations are up to date. School required immunizations reduce the risk of diseases that can be prevented by vaccines. If your child is not up to date with their immunizations, now is the time to take them to their primary physician or clinic such as Immunize El Paso who has started the Vax2School Initiative for the new school year. Please visit immunizeelpaso.org for further information on their locations and hours. For more information on the minimum immunization requirements in Texas schools, please visit the Texas Department of State Health Services at https://www.dshs.texas.gov/immunize/school/default.shtm
