School Safety Drills
All BCS schools are required to practice various emergency drills throughout the year. This week, our students will participate in an emergency lockdown drill and will also practice another fire drill. We understand that some students may feel emotional during our drills, so we do encourage families to talk to children at home about those feelings. Please reach out to one of our school counselors should you need assistance with this sensitive topic.
Spraying for Bees
In accordance with state Integrated Pest Management laws this notice is being sent to notify you that a Level 3 pesticide application will take place on Monday, August 28th between 5:00 AM - 6:00 AM at Opequon. No students will be on premises during the application of this spray.

Want to Volunteer or Chaperone a Field Trip?
Register with SecureVolunteer
Berkeley County Schools uses SecureVolunteer to process background checks for volunteers. SecureVolunteer is a completely web-based/paperless system. You will receive e-mails from clientservices@bib.com when you submit your information to SecureVolunteer and when your background check is complete. Thank you for volunteering for Berkeley County Schools.
The background processing fee for the Secure Volunteer Background check is $22.45.
Procedures for Volunteers & Chaperones
School district procedure requires that individuals serving as chaperones for all overnight field trips and some daytime activities must have Level 1 approval, which requires a criminal background screening. To apply for Level 1 approval, volunteers must first apply online via Berkeley County Schools’ volunteer registration system (Secure Volunteer).
Registrations are processed in 3-5 days, sometimes longer at the beginning of the school year and then must be submitted to the Berkeley County Board of Education for approval. Once approved, the volunteer’s name will appear on the Level 1 Approved Volunteer list at the school(s) for which they registered.
For information on volunteer/chaperone procedures, please visit: https://www.berkeleycountyschools.org/page/volunteers-chaperones
Please complete this form https://www.berkeleycountyschools.org/o/bcs/page/absencenote if your child is absent from school. This form is for all parent notes, and also for medical appointments. Please upload the doctor's note for all medical appointments during school hours, or when a child is out of sick due to illness.
Seesaw for Schools
Opequon Elementary School will continue to be a Seesaw Learning School! Parents will not only be able to communicate with staff members, but they will also be able to view student work as well. When teachers have students complete assignments in Seesaw, parents will have instant access to those assignments.
Parents, please make sure you join Seesaw (through your chid's teacher) to ensure you are connected to Opequon!
