Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
We hosted local principals and counselors for breakfast and a tour today. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Culinary, Baking & Pastry Arts students prepared and served braised pork tamales, jalapeño spears, provolone cheese on top a bed of pinto beans, mole and a poached egg with house made concha bread.
3D Virtual Technology for AMS
Applied Medical Sciences has a new 3D dissection table from Anatomage. It was purchased with a grant from OSPI. With it, students will be able to explore four human bodies and all their organ systems from many angles. There are built in case studies to review as well. We are excited for this new age 3D virtual technology.

EVENT SITUATION
You are to assume the role of concept designers, you will choose, at random, the CLIENT you will design for and you will be given a CONSTRAINT that the design must include. Determine who the client is, where they live, what is their income range, and what motivates them. You are creating a signature look for an upcoming event and must be able to take something from their life as inspiration. You need to be able to "sell" this look to as there are other designers you are competing against. If you get this gig, you will be designing and styling for your client in the coming season, the pressure is on!
New Program is Off to a Great Start
One day per week the students participate in field experience at local elementary schools and another day they work one on one in a preschool co-op.

Where are They Now
Alina Doichehlu arrived in May 2022 from Ismail, Ukraine. In September 2022 she started the Dental program at Cascadia Tech and graduated in June 2023. Since October 2023 Alina has been working at Quality Dental Care as a Dental Assistant. She speaks Russian, Ukrainian, Rumanian and English.
Alina shares her story, "My counselor told me about Cascadia as soon as I started at Heritage. It was in May 2022, and on the last day before the deadline I applied for Dental. They put me on a waiting list, there was no room. June, July, August I spent working hard on my English which was way too low. When school started in September, I learned that I was admitted.
On day one I made sure I knew all my classmates who speak one of my languages. That helped me to survive. Dental class routine was tough. More than once I thought - I won't make it. It's been more like being employed rather than being a student. I fainted during one of the practices because I was afraid of seeing blood. But I had to compose myself and keep going.
I came from the war in Ukraine, there is no way back.
Thank you, Cascadia, for everything you've done for me! You made me stronger. You made me self-sufficient. You made me a professional."
