Welcome back to school for Term 4! I hope all families had a relaxing holiday break and are ready for another exciting term. This term promises to be another busy one, right from the very beginning. On Friday, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a SPARTAN event. We have between 15-20 activities that will be set up on the netball court and fields, and students will be able to challenge themselves to complete the course. All students must return their permission note early this week, and should return the money they have raised on Friday. Parents and friends are invited to attend and watch the event.
Good luck to Luca, Jock, Quincy and Caleb, who will be competing in the regional public speaking competition on Wednesday at Matraville PS. These students were successful in their class and school competitions and will now represent Banksmeadow at the regional finals.
Our office staff are busy getting ready for our change to the new finance and management system. We thank you for your patience during this time. Please note that online payments are unavailable this week, and cash payments will only be accepted until tomorrow. Online and cash payments will resume on Tuesday 18th October.
An enormous thank you must go to Kylie Jordan, Nicole Ngapoula, Tania & Leigh Roberson, Jacqui Twitchings and Dylan Trist, who spent a significant amount of time in the top garden to prepare for the Botany Bay City Council Garden Judging Competition at the end of last term. Special thanks also to Pene Ingle, for working with the Year 6s to enhance the gardens around the Year 5 and 6 classrooms. The gardens look wonderful and the judges were very impressed. We very much appreciate all of the time and effort of these parents and students to make the gardens look so good.
Congratulations to all of our winter PSSA teams for a fantastic season. All students demonstrated a high level of skill, improvement, team work and sportsmanship throughout the last two terms and we are very proud of everyone who participated. Extra congratulations must go to our Junior Rugby League team and their coach Mr Murphy, who finished the season at the top of the table. Well done!!
Congratulations also to our Spelling Bee finalists, Hayden, Jem, Tate and Joshua, who competed in the regional final held at Glebe PS at the end of last term. These students were successful in their class and stage finals and represented the school well.

SPARTAN Event - THIS FRIDAY!!
The P&C's major fundraising event for this year will be held this Friday 14th October. All students will have the opportunity to participate in a SPARTAN event. This event will be set up on the school field and will contain inflatable obstacle-style apparatus. Classes will take turns to complete the event and will have a whole lot of fun while doing so! The event will have activities suitable for every age and fitness level, and is designed to get kids active...and dirty! (Please wear old clothes and shoes, and bring a spare set to change into).
The aim of the day is to have fun and raise some money for our school. Students are asked to recruit sponsors from family and friends, and collect money for completing the event. Prizes will be awarded to the class and the individual boy and girl who raise the most money. Students should have brought a note home at the end of last term - please see the office if you require extra copies. Please return all permission notes early this week to ensure your child is able to participate.
We are also looking for parent volunteers to either: help set up, pack up or assist the children to complete the activities. Please contact Sarah Monahas on 0412 017 292 or see Ms Hoskins if you are able to assist.
Dance
There will be no before school practice for the Junior dance group this week. Both the Senior and Junior groups will rehearse at lunchtime tomorrow. Normal lesson times will resume next week.
Stage 3 Overnight Excursion
Next week, Stage 3 students from our school will be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion and has already been deducted from the total cost for each student to attend the excursion.

All students should wear the summer school uniform for Term 4.
Parent 'Tell Them From Me' Surveys - REPEAT
Tell Them From Me Surveys for parents are now open. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. It should only take about 15 minutes or less and is entirely confidential.
Information from this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.
Please complete the survey by visiting https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/zz95f before 21st October.
