Tech Tidbit: Gale Virtual Reference Library
As the school year gets under way, don't forget that we have a plethora of electronic resources for students to access electronically! One of the resources that I have tried to truly develop in the last year is our Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL). The GVRL can be accessed through a desktop/laptop or through the Access My Library Mobile app. Found in the GVRL are a vareity of reference-type resource eBooks that can all be accessed simultaneously by students. To be accessed through the Internet on a desktop or laptop, simply go to the Media Center page on the DHS website and click on the GVRL link I have there. To access through the app, you'll search for our school (spelled incorrectly with only 1 "s") and then enter the password bulldogs01. We have LOTS of resources on there for you to use with student research. Just a sampling of the titles include:

Call Me By My Name by John Ed Bradley
Lousiana in the 1960s was a place slow to change its deep-seated notions of race. Despite the town's prejudices, Rodney and Angie Boulett befriend talented black athlete, Tater Henry. As their friendship grows, Tater and Rodney become unstoppable on the football field, but Tater and Angie are growing closer too. All three will discover how far hate can truly go and what is truly too much to accept.
Death Coming Up the Hill by Chris Crowe
17-year-old Ashe is growing up in the tumultuous year of 1968. Set to a backdrop of the Vietnam war, Ashe finds himself constantly thinking of the war abroad while dealing with his own "war" at home--between his dogmatic, racist father and hippie-like, peace-loving mother. Written in haiku, Death Coming Up the Hill is a quick yet powerful read.
