Santa paid a visit to Vaughan Elementary School to pick up letters that students had written to him. Santa, all of his Elves, Cindy Lou Who, The Grinch, and Max the Dog were thrilled to see all of the students and their excitement throughout the night.We hope students and parents enjoyed the chocolate bars, candy canes donated by Littleton United Methodist Church, and the hot chocolate donated by Daphne's Coffee Shop in Littleton. Students received Christmas bags full of goodies and school supplies from each teacher. Included in each student's bag was a new scholastic book donated by Littleton United Methodist Church. Some of the book titles included The Perfect Present, Snowman Magic, Ellray Jakes Rocks the Holidays, and The Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. We are so thankful for Littleton United Methodist Church's generosity to our school. Thank you to everyone who attended our Letters to Santa Event and to those who made it happen. It was a great success!

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering our students a second chance opportunity to improve their current grades. We will be implementing WCS Winter Break Study Island Interventions. Students will be required to complete at least 20 lessons/practice activities in the subject area(s) in which they currently have a failing grade. Students are to complete these assignments from December 21, 2020 – January 4, 2021 using Study Island with at least 70% mastery. If you have any questions about this opportunity, please contact your child’s teacher. Thank you for your continuous support and understanding during this time of remote learning.

We had a successful Family Reading Night on December 1st. Mrs. Paynter, our media coordinator, worked very hard to make our Family Reading Night fun and interesting for students and parents. Her hard work paid off! Students were able to listen to Mrs. Paynter and Mrs. Mizelle read books to them in live time and take AR tests. Teachers and support staff made read aloud recordings of books for students and parents to watch and listen to. Mrs. Paynter also shared many virtual library book shelves for students to listen to or read. The staff enjoyed Family Reading Night and we hope parents and students enjoyed it too! We will be having another Family Reading Night on January 26, 2021 from 6:00-7:30pm.

The 5th Grade students in Mrs. Henry's class have packed their bags and started their journey to explore how Christmas is celebrated in different countries around the world. They visited Australia, Africa and Mrs. Henry's home country of Jamaica. Students compared and contrasted the different countries' traditions and learned Jamaica's native language, Creole. It was a very exciting and informative trip.

In Mrs. Paynter's media classes, students learned about Christmas traditions around the world. The students visited Germany and learned about gingerbread. We are so appreciative of Mrs. Paynter's creative and knowledge filled lessons.

The Knights of Columbus donated 36 coats to the students at Vaughan. Mrs. Callahan was able to give away some of those coats during our Letters to Santa event. However, there are still Winter coats available! These coats will keep our students nice and warm, so please contact Mrs. Callahan if your child needs a coat. Our goal is to give all of them out! Mrs. Colin purchased musical instruments for students to have at home to play during virtual music class. She is not going to let virtual learning stop the music. Each student received a bag with a musical instrument in it during our Letters to Santa event. How exciting! Students, we cannot wait to hear the beautiful music you will make with your new instruments.

Mrs. Ramey's class recently read the book A Bucket Full of Blessings. A Bucket Full of Blessings is an Indian folktale about a drought in a mountain village with a vast jungle. Everything was parched and dry due to the lack of rain. The monkey collects water from a cave to bring back to the Peacock for a rain dance. The bucket leaks, giving water to the plants and animals along the way. It is not until the Peacock dances that the rains begin. The monkey, his leaky bucket and the peacock were a blessing.

Guidance Workshop and Math Night - January 14, 2021 6:00-8:00pm

Mrs. Callahan would love to see parents from 6:00-6:30 for our guidance workshop. She will be discussing tips on how to help students handle stress, anxiety, and academic work during virtual learning and the COVID 19 pandemic. You can join the workshop by going to the Monday Morning Meet Link at 6:00. After the guidance workshop, parents will breakout into their child's Classroom Google Meet Link to participate in Math Night! Parents and students will receive math tips, resources, and even play math games with their students!

Come out and read an online book and then go to Accelerated Reader to take a test. Students who provide a list of books read and tests passed will receive a homework pass for one class assignment.
