St. Gabriel Education Centre
October 2022
Principal's Update
Happy Fall! I will be honest . . . I've been pretty happy with these warmer temperatures that we've been having. I love winter but I'm happy to delay it for as long as we can. Plus, as a former farm girl, I know this weather is wonderful for all the farmers who are harvesting right now. Having said that, I was chatting with one of our new students who will be experiencing her first winter in Canada this year. She is so excited to make snow angels and snowballs and wear sweaters. It might be time to embrace her excited anticipation of the winter season.
We've had a wonderful start-up at St. Gabriel Education Centre this year. Our numbers are significantly up from this time last year so that is great news. Thank you to all of you who have shared with friends and family your experiences at St. Gabes. Our students are well into their courses now and are starting to take those first unit exams. Please join our social media channels and continue to share the good news of St. Gabes!
Our first school council meeting did not have enough attendance to form a council so we're going to try one more time on Oct. 13. Please see the information below about how to join our council. It's really important that we have a school council.
We have some events coming up in October so please go through our newsletter and take note of them.
I'm looking forward to continuing to get to know our students and families this semester.
Many Blessings!

School Council
We weren't able to establish a school council at our last meeting due to low attendance by parents. We will try once more on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:30pm.
We meet once per month except for December and June. All of our meetings are online. Being part of the School Council is a great way to learn about your child's school and advise the administration about what you want and need at school. Bonus - There's no fundraising on School Council!
Please let me know if you would like to join us by emailing me at mailto:rtrottier@gsacrd.ab.ca.
A school with a School Council is a strong, productive and viable school!

Those families who can't make it to St. Albert to bring in food in person, please take this opportunity to support your own local food bank or church food drive.

Dual Credit Opportunities for High School and Adult students
Dual credit is optional career-based high school programming. It can assist students in making meaningful transitions to post-secondary education or the workplace. School authorities have the flexibility to develop and implement dual credit programming that provides students with relevant learning experiences.
We are in a position to offer a new opportunity for dual credit to our students due to the Government of Alberta Dual Credit Grant. For the 2022-23 school year, As part of our commitment to our students and their futures, our school division endeavours to offer programming that provides dual credit opportunities to our community’s high school students. Through Dual Credit experiences, students will earn college/ university credits from a post-secondary institution and high school credits from their school by completing this coursework. These programs are offered in partnership with St. Albert Public Schools, Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, Elk Island Public Schools, Norquest College, Portage College and Alberta Education.

ARISE! Get Up, Get Going and Go with God!
"Arise! I have appointed you as a witness of what you have seen!"
(Acts 26:16)
Our GSACRD Faith theme is in its third year of, "Arise! Get Up, Get Going and Go with God!"
This year, we are focusing on the "Go with God!" part of our theme. How do students, staff and parents allow God into their lives? How do we share our excitement about our faith?
October - The Month of the Rosary
WHY IS OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY?
October 7th is the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, sometimes referred to as the Feast of the Holy Rosary. The day was dedicated by St. Pius V who credited a victory over the invading Turks to the intercession of Mary through the rosary. Pope Benedict XVI described the image of Our Lady of the Rosary in a 2007 Angelus:
“The traditional image of Our Lady of the Rosary portrays Mary who with one arm supports the Child Jesus and with the other is offering the rosary beads to St Dominic. This important iconography shows that the Rosary is a means given by the Virgin to contemplate Jesus and, in meditating on his life, to love him and follow him ever more faithfully. It is this message that Our Lady has also bequeathed to us in her various apparitions.”
