I’m so excited to be back with my Overton family as the Student Behavior Support Specialist for the 24-25 school year! This is my 8th year in education. I spent 5 years in 3rd grade RLA, and I'm so excited to be in my 3rd year in this role! I graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in December of 2016 with a degree in Elementary Education and have student taught, substitute taught, classroom taught, and been an SBS specialist all with LISD. I am proud to be part of such an amazing district.

My husband Ben and I are high school sweethearts and we celebrated 9 years of marriage in May. We have an 8-year-old adopted son Abel and just adopted our 3-year-old daughter Salem this summer.

I can't wait to spend time with your kids this year learning and growing our social-emotional skills!

My role on campus this year will be to work with students and teachers to help develop a supportive campus culture and to aid in social-emotional learning...but what exactly IS social-emotional learning? Take a look at the video below for some valuable information about what we hope to help students with this year!

I will be working with grade levels this year through a curriculum called Second Step! Your student will receive weekly lessons on topics such as "Having a Growth Mindset," "Managing Emotions," and "Kindness & Empathy." Their teachers will also have access to this curriculum and take-home activities will be supplied as well. Below is an informational video about the Second Steps curriculum.

Here's a mindfulness activity you can try anywhere: breathing exercises. Guided breathing can be a great way to help overwhelmed kids catch a moment of calm and refocus themselves. Try this one as a family!
