Link Crew Applications Open (Class '24) (Class '25)
(VGHS) Link Crew, the school’s orientation and transition program, is ramping up to welcome next year’s incoming students. In case a refresher is needed, Link Crew is where 11th and 12th grade leaders help 9th graders enter and succeed in high school by building relationships and creating connections 9th graders can trust. Here’s where YOU come in...and it’s not a lot of work on your part. Nobody knows our students better than you, and we need you to share that knowledge. Who are we looking for? We would like to ask you to stretch your notion of student leadership because our goal is to create a team of Link Crew leaders who represent EVERY type of kid who goes to our school, not just those who are already recognized as leaders. When our Link Leader team is a cross-section of our student body, every 9th grader will see and know that our school accepts and appreciates the person they are. Please complete the application form by Friday, May 12, at https://forms.office.com/r/7kYzKZpPEr. Questions? Please contact Katherine Kwiatkowski at kkwiatkowski@cguhsd.org.

Grand Canyon University Day
Twenty-eight Casa Grande Union High School juniors and seniors traveled to Grand Canyon University for GCU Day on Thursday, March 2. The Cougars took a tour of the campus and had an opportunity to visit key educational and sports facilities as well as campus dorms and apartments.
CGUHS students met with GCU students and counselors to discuss numerous majors, careers, and how preparation is the key to college and career success. Mrs. Delany Bachman, GCU Admissions Counselor, went into depth about finances and the expenses of being a college student, as well as preparation for receiving scholarships. GCU students shared their experiences of working on campus and going to school.
CGUHS students used their cell phones to gather information about college and careers, and participated in a competitive quiz with the winners receiving prizes. GCU provided a meal for each student while students spoke with GCU students on a one-on-one basis. The GCU students were extremely candid about their life and their experiences as college students. CGUHS students, collectively, expressed sincere gratitude for the rich information they received from the GCU admission counselor and students.
CGUHS students were so impressed that many of them signed up to receive more information about GCU and to spend a weekend on campus. The GCU staff and students were very impressed with the Cougars’ questions, composure, and maturity. It was a rewarding experience for all who attended GCU Day.

Scholarship Opportunities
It is a known fact college is expensive and the cost is rising. Do not let that deter you from applying for college. There are many opportunities to help you cover the cost of college. Scholarships are gifts of "free money" that do not need to be paid back, unlike student loans. Most scholarships can be awarded based on merit, which means that students earn them for having good grades, athletic talent, volunteering, or even for a certain demographic. Every year, hundreds of billions of dollars are awarded in scholarship money. There are many sources of scholarship, such as colleges and universities, military, individuals, communities, nonprofits, ethnic/historical organizations, businesses, religious groups, and more. Some scholarships are highly selective but many are not. The best practice is to apply for as many scholarships as possible and start early.
