Superintendent's Update

I am sure many of you share my respect and gratitude for the SISD teachers. Teachers choose a career in education for a variety of reasons, but a common thread is their love for kids and a desire to help them succeed. SISD teachers, we are proud of you and are so glad to have you on our team! During teacher appreciation week, please take a moment and say thanks to our teachers. Parents, you have added the role of teacher to your other responsibilities, and we appreciate you as well.

Several of you have asked about retrieving personal items at school. We are working on a plan for students to pick up any items they may have on campus. With over 2,500 students in the district, coordinating a safe and efficient item pick-up is a top priority. If you have an urgent need, please contact your child's school, and we will be glad to work something out with you.

Last week, we finalized the contract between Responsive Education Solutions and SISD to manage Snyder Junior High School. As we learn more about plans for the junior high, I am encouraged and excited for next year. Incoming Junior High Students (current grades 5-7) will need to complete an elective request form by May 8, 2020. The form is linked below in the newsletter.

Based on Governor Abbott's Reopen Texas Plan, the question was raised about large group gatherings. We have contacted local and state officials for clarification and are awaiting details from the Governor and TEA. We are exploring the possibility of a live graduation ceremony at the football field in addition to the parade, and we should have an answer sometime this week.

The current plan is to hold a graduation parade with a stage for seniors to cross along the parade route. Participants and spectators are asked to follow social-distancing and other health and safety guidelines. A photographer will be present to take photos, and the event will be broadcast live. As soon as we receive more information, rest assured, we will provide you with updates.

Thank you for all you are doing to support your children, the community, and Snyder ISD.

School Climate Survey

Did you receive the climate survey in your email inbox last week? It should only take you 5-7 minutes to complete. We know it's been a while since the kids have been on campus, but this survey helps us understand how we can improve. Please reflect on the 2019-2020 school year prior to Spring Break when answering the survey questions. Encourage your child to complete a survey as well. Thank you for your help as we work to improve our campuses. If you have already completed the survey, thank you!
