May 2023
Dear MVLA Community,
As the end of the school year approaches, I want to express my gratitude for our incredible students, staff team, and community. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group of individuals who work tirelessly to ensure our students receive exceptional educational opportunities.
Our students are the heart and soul of our district, and it is truly a privilege to witness their growth and development. They bring so much energy and enthusiasm to our schools and inspire us to improve daily. Our staff team is to be commended for their consistent commitment and dedication to our students.
Finally, I want to express my appreciation for our community. We are fortunate to have parents, volunteers, and community members who are deeply invested in the success of our schools. You can tell a lot about a community by how they support their youth and our future leaders. I am proud to be a part of such an incredible district, and I look forward to continuing our work together.
Thank you for all that you do.

AWARDS AND ACCOLADES
Congratulations to Lucy Wang for being named Freestyle Academy's Student of the Year. Lucy's teachers say she has consistently set the standard for excellence as a student, digital artist, and community member, and that she has raised the Academy's already-high bar.
As a senior, her zenith project is focused on particle effects simulation in 3D animation, which her teachers say this is the first time anyone has ever tried because it is such a heavy subject for high school students, but she is making great progress. Read more about Lucy here, and view her Board recognition here, starting at 37:24.
Aviv is the President & founder of the Astro Club at Los Altos and teaches students of all levels about astrophysical phenomena. She is also co-president of the Neuroscience Club. Her favorite classes at LAHS have been her STEM classes.
Her teachers described Aviv as thoughtful, a critical thinker, and super enthusiastic. She loves learning about languages in and out of school, and learning Greek marks her fifth language. Read more about Aviv here, and see her Board recognition here, starting at 19:45.
Wesley's favorite classes are Math and Physics. He is the President of the Animal Assisted Happiness Club, the incoming Vice President of Spartan Buddies, and the incoming President of the National Honors Society. Wesley is also a part of the Ambassadors.
Outside of school, Wesley volunteers every weekend to help children with special needs and has volunteered over 500 hours with Animal Assisted Happiness. Read more about Wes here, and see his Board recognition here, starting at 27:59.

NEW PRINCIPAL APPOINTED TO LOS ALTOS HIGH SCHOOL
A new leader will be at the helm of Los Altos High School for the 2023-2024 school year. Tracey Runeare, who serves as the principal at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, will succeed longtime LAHS principal Wynne Satterwhite retiring next month after a 30+ year career with MVLA.
Runeare's appointment was approved by the Board of Trustees at its May 22nd meeting.
"We are delighted to welcome Tracey Runeare to the MVLA school district and look forward to her energy and enthusiasm as an administrator and student advocate," said Dr. Nellie Meyer, Superintendent for MVLA. "I am confident her high school administrative experience, instructional background and values, and commitment to equity will complement our strong LAHS culture."
"I am thrilled to join the Home of the Eagles," said Runeare. "I was particularly drawn to Los Altos High's values of equity and world-class educational opportunities." Read more here!
