Greetings from Mr. E
Dear Jefferson Families & Friends:
It is almost officially FALL! The weather will start changing and getting a little cooler. I have already noticed a little chill in the morning air, not bad, yet, just be ready.
Remember there is NO SCHOOL MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11. There is a District In-Service for teachers and administrators that day.
CONSTRUCTION:
I truly apologize for the inconveniences that the construction has caused on 3rd Street, in front of the school. However, it will be nice when it is done….perhaps by next Friday. I will keep you posted. They have paved the street but had some other issues and had to redo part of the street. They are also replacing the curb from Cottonwood to Silber along 3rd Street. Next week, the front crosswalk will be getting torn out and roped off. You can cross the street just a little to the east in front of our kitchen. We will have someone to help with crossing there for our walkers. Also, the power company will be in over the weekend to replace the pole and redo some wiring. We have not been able to use the west playground this week. We should be good to go on Tuesday.
FUNDRAISERS:
We sent home our School Mall packets yesterday. If you fill out the envelope and have the online code written down, your student will receive a prize once it is returned. We only have a week or so to turn those back in. The way it works is that if you shop online, there is a good chance that wherever you buy from (Walmart, Target, etc.) is partnered with School Mall. When purchasing, you put in our code and the school gets some money back. You can also purchase gift certificates for your classroom teacher to buy supplies for their classroom. It is really simple to do and use.
Also, this week, the North Platte Public Schools will be kicking off CHANGE WARS! Students bring change to school to donate to the NPPSD Foundation AND Jefferson School actually will get to keep a large percentage to use for our building from what we raise (spare change laying around, pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, or green, if you know what I mean). The Foundation uses the money to fund special grants to teachers throughout the year; it also provides scholarships for students and helps to fund some of our District programs that some Jefferson families definitely appreciate. It helps all of us in some way or another. It will begin on the 13th (Wednesday) and end the following Wednesday, September 20. The winning classes from all the schools will be honored at the football game on the 22nd at the High School. Those classes will also get a gift certificate to use as well as some other perks like a chance for tickets to the Backyard BBQ before the game and entry to the football game. We will also walk on the track as we are introduced before the game. We got second place last year!
Both of these take little effort and are both beneficial to Jefferson School. We hope you are able to help out even if it is only a little bit that you are able to give. We are planning to use the money we raise to purchase a swing set for the West playground and perhaps some other minor equipment for the students to use.
Lastly, you can still order Jefferson shirts and other cool stuff online:
There is a 30% off sale going on until Thursday, September 14.
PTO:
We held our first PTO meeting this past Tuesday. The PTO is in need of an officer and more importantly, people to be part of it and help them out. The PTO hosts a few events throughout the year such as Bingo For Books, the Book Fair, and school parties and treats. They cannot do it on their own. We have four or five ladies that pretty much have been doing most of this for a while now. We need some new parents to come join and learn the ropes because their kids will be gone in the near future and we don’t want the PTO to go away. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month in the Jefferson School Library. We would love to have you join and help out to give your children some fun experiences throughout the year. The next meeting is Tuesday, October 3rd at 6:00pm. Hope you can make it.
CROSSWALKS:
I know that with our current situation with the construction it is difficult to find parking and it is a little congested. However, we still need to be safe for the sake of all of our students and staff. Please use the crosswalks to cross streets. We are teaching safety and that is an important area that needs to remain safe. We have adults that have stop signs and will stop traffic for you to cross. We have also been crossing in the middle of the street on the South side due to our situation, but again, we have stop signs and will help you stay safe. Please use those areas. Also, please try not to block the crosswalk with your car while waiting to move forward in the line for the drive thru or any other areas around the building. That also creates a safety hazard. Thank you for your help with this.
Thank you all for all that you do to make your students' education a success. We strive to help all students learn at every ability level and we have a terrific staff here at Jefferson that deserve a lot of praise for what they do every day. If you see your child’s teacher, let them know you are thankful for them and tell them they are doing a good job. They enjoy hearing that as much as you enjoy hearing how proud they are of your children. I am looking forward to a successful, eventful year. We have several things lined up so be looking for information coming your way.

ROAR
Jefferson ROAR Tickets
On Monday, September 18th Jefferson Elementary will be implementing a new positive choice behavior ticket system. All staff members will be able to give these positive tickets to students who are displaying good choices, being safe, respectful, responsible and display an understanding of our Boys Town expectations. Each week Mr. E will draw for a total of 10 tickets between two reward buckets. Each month at our school wide assembly, Mr. E will draw from a combined bucket for monthly winners, which will equal a bigger “prize.” There will also be an overall yearly goal established for the whole school to receive a “prize.”

PBIS
The Positive Behavior Interventions and Support Team has been getting together each month to discuss data that students present with academics and behaviors we can assist with during the school day. We are seeing great success with the interventions we are implementing school wide! With our return to school we will have all classes reteach the school expectations within the building and on the playground. This review will help students be successful in remembering how to behave in different situations while within the building. Please take a few moments to discuss with your child the different rules/guidelines that they need to follow at school (in the classroom, hallways, bathroom, playground, etc.) and talk about how they are the same or different from the rules you use at home! Thank you again for your support!
