History 11- American Icon Paper- We rolled out an 11th grade research paper in the history department this year. This paper supports the library science curriculum and dovetails with the teaching in the English 11 paper. One of our goals is to enable better transfer of skills from our language arts courses to our other areas of study.
English 12 Impact Paper- This is the second year of the roll out of the new Impact paper for English 12. This paper focuses on the impact of art on a social movement.
Africa and Middle East Annotated Bibliography: After looking at the information science skills introduced and expected throughout a student's tenure at West and across the curriculum, we decided to really focus on the annotated bibliography as an introductory skill in 9th grade research in the History curriculum.
College English- Database Scavenger Hunt: As the College English course heads into the second half of their year, the students received a refresher on what resources are available to them through our libraries and the useful components of each.

Hamilton!
90 West students and 10 faculty chaperone traveled to Pittsburgh to participate in the EduHam (Hamilton Education) program sponsored by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. After spending a month in after school curriculum, learning about the Revolutionary period of American History and our Founding Fathers, the students each created a unique performance piece that was based off of primary source material and performed in front of a panel of teachers. Three of our students, Annabelle Liechty, Kate Trimble, and TJ Wickersham, were then selected to perform to a full audience at the Benedum Center for Performing Arts in Pittsburgh. They had written, composed, and performed their own interpretation of events from Abigail Adams’s perspective. After student performances, our students participated in a Q&A with the cast of the Broadway musical Hamilton and were able to watch a matinee performance of Hamilton. This once in a lifetime experience was one that they will surely not forget!
