Welcome Back to School!

We are looking forward to seeing you all as we return to school tomorrow for the spring semester. This time of year we are always on the lookout for bad weather, please remember that safety comes first, especially with teenage drivers. If school is canceled due to bad weather you will receive a notification via text message, or a phone call, and the information will be posted on our social media pages.

As we ramp up basketball season, prepare for court warming, and all of our spring events we want to remind students to make sure they are at school each day and stay eligible by working on their OTI plans.

My New Year's Resolutions are to be as positive and proactive as possible, make more time for my family, and prioritize my health. I hope you are walking into 2023 with a plan to make it great!

Cafeteria Changes

During the December BOE Meeting, the board voted to allow for local rules to be put in place in the cafeteria as teachers would for a classroom. This grants our cafeteria staff the ability to establish their own set of rules for the cafeteria.

In order to promote a healthy environment in the cafeteria the following updates have been made to the food/drink rules for students. You will notice that the new rules offer some additional options for students in the cafeteria.

The following drink types are allowed in the cafeteria:

- Milk

- Water

- Tea

- Juice

- Diet or Zero Calorie Soda

- Diet or Zero Calorie Sport Drinks

The following drink types are not allowed in the cafeteria

- Energy Drinks

- Full-calorie soda

- Any drinks in disposable to-go cups

Individual Plans of Study

Prior to Winter Break, I shared with you that all of our students will be working on their IPS (Individual Plans of Study) from now until Parent Teacher Conferences in March. During your student's conference, parents will be able to view the IPS and provide feedback. The goal for this process is for us to be able to provide all students with access to the courses they need to accomplish their goals.

Parents - We need you!

One of our goals this year is to establish a site council. Our site council would be made up of school personnel (certified and classified), parents, and students to help inform decisions that we make at school. The purpose of the school site council is to advise the school on such matters as student learning, education programs, school improvement planning, education planning, and accreditation issues. The site council also plays an advocacy role for the school regarding the same issues.

A site council is a commitment to the school in hopes of making it the best school it can be. It is a time commitment, but it is also a commitment to seek solutions to areas of weakness in our system. A great school is always seeking ways to improve and a site council helps to lead those improvements.

Sportsmanship and Rule 52

At any game or event, the worst feeling for an administrator is that they would have to address an athlete, coach, or fan regarding behavior. Passion and pride sometimes mix with frustration and show up in negative ways that can adversely impact the school, team, and community.

At all events, our goal is to provide a positive experience for our athletes and coaches. We want to cheer them on, provide encouragement and support them whether they win or lose. PHS Pride has been a goal this year, and our students have risen to the occasion, they show up and cheer each other on. I am so proud that our student section is growing into a fun and positive environment for our fans and athletes.

As we approach basketball season, you will see more leadership from our students in the area of sportsmanship, prior to each game our athletes will provide these reminders to fans to help promote a positive environment.
