The New York State School Boards Association recognizes October 18 - 22 as School Board Recognition Week. This is a time to promote awareness and understanding of the important work performed by school board members. The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District is joining all public school districts across the state to celebrate School Board Recognition Week to honor local board members for their commitment to HFLCSD and its children.

"I appreciate how the school board has led the way in celebrating Cougar Pride regularly with the implementation of the Cougar Pride Award. These volunteers spend countless hours preparing for meetings, are willing to serve in unpaid roles as stewards for the education of the community's children,” said Gene Mancuso, HF-L Superintendent.

Mancuso said the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:

• Creating a shared vision for the future of education
• Setting the direction of the school district to achieve the highest student performance
• Providing accountability for student achievement results
• Developing a budget that aligns district resources to improve achievement
• Supporting a healthy school district culture in which to work and to learn
• And much more!

HF-L’s Board of Education members give the HF-L citizens a voice in education decision making and the administration would like to recognize them in the following statements.

“Thank you to the Honeoye Falls-Lima Board of Education for your leadership and commitment to our students, staff, and our community. I appreciate all the time you have volunteered serving our District,” said David Roth, High School Principal.

“I greatly appreciate the efforts of our Board of Education. Throughout the years, it has been clear to me that they care greatly about the welfare of our students and staff. They give hours and hours of their time voluntarily in service to the community. Their time, energy, and commitment is noticed and valued. Thank you,” said Shawn Williams, Middle School Principal.

“Thank you to our BOE for the continued support of our Habits of Mind. As a board, you model thinking flexibly, taking responsible risks, responding with wonderment, and continuous learning. You LIVE the Habits, and we see it,” said Joelle Weaver, Manor School Assistant Principal.

Throughout School Board Recognition Week, the District will be recognizing its Board members with a social media campaign as well as a follow-up recognition at the upcoming Board of Education meeting scheduled for October 26, 2021.

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District is excited to announce the launch of a new website platform that plans to focus on student stories. The District will be launching the new website on November 1st to accommodate an exciting new live feed capability, which will allow us to share in "real-time". This website will be the driving force in the larger effort to highlight the achievements that take place every day across the district. This technology is designed with both families and school leaders in mind.

This effort is in partnership with Apptegy, an education technology company. The company created Thrillshare, a marketing platform that empowers teachers, students, and administrators to share stories of growth in the district.

This new website will be a one-stop-shop for all of the District's content.

HF-L Downhill Ski and Snowboard Club is back! Registration is now open for students in grades 3 - 12 through the Community Programs website. For more information check out the HF-L Downhill Ski and Snowboard Club Facebook page or stop by the Community Programs Office. Think Snow!

Club Paper is designed to keep students engaged in a fun, low-pressure learning environment while giving the flexibility to select individual classes that match students’ interests and fit within their schedules. This virtual program offers daily live and on-demand classes across several categories, including art, movement, math, science, cooking, language, and more. HF-L BIL is a recreational basketball league sponsored by HF-L Community Programs. The focus is on learning the basics while having fun and getting exercise with friends. Leagues are for 3-4 grade boys, 3-4 grade girls, 5-6 co-ed, 5-6 grade girls, 7-8 co-ed, and 9-12 co-ed. There will be one practice OR game per week from January through mid-March. Questions? The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District is happy to announce its partnership with Paper, a digital tutoring service. This service is available to all HF-L students in grades 4-12 and will provide free, unlimited access to virtual tutoring sessions. These sessions are 1:1 and are available 24 hours a day. Students can access this using their ClassLink portal.

Using Paper, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps. Administrators have visibility into where support is needed.

UPDATE: Paper is now offering live parent webinars. They are every 2 weeks in English and Spanish. 45 mins, parents sign up through that page and they will receive a Zoom link by email. https://pages.paper.co/webinars-for-parents-and-guardians

Mendon Public Library is open M-Th, 9 am - 8 pm. Friday and Saturday, 9 am - 3 pm.

HF-L Youth Lacrosse is offering indoor winter training for ALL interested HF-L students. Training is on Thursday nights, starting November 4th, for boys and girls in grades K-6 from 7 pm-8 pm and grades 7-12 from 8 pm-9 pm at The Athletic Campus on Brighton-Henrietta Town Line Road. Cougar Hoops Registration for the 2021-2022 season is NOW OPEN. We will be registering girls and boys teams at the 3rd-8th grade levels for play in the Monroe and Livingston County travel leagues. Registration will be open until OCTOBER 15th! We need to get an accurate headcount for our teams by that date in order to be able to enter some of these leagues.
