Internationally Speaking, with Principal Bryant
Dear Silver Spring International Families,
Welcome Fall!🍁🍂
I'm excited to announce we will hold the rescheduled SSIMS Community Meeting on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in the SCES gymnasium! This is our regularly scheduled October PTSA meeting during which I traditionally share "state of the school" information. I am taking the opportunity to invite our larger SSIMS family out to hear about our school plans for the year. As a result, each of our 4 main feeder elementary schools, and our expanded feeder elementary schools are invited to join us that evening. I will send those invitations next week. We are super excited to welcome parents and caregivers back into our school building this year! Please make plans to come out and learn more about our school.
Have a GREAT weekend! 🐾
Calendar for 9/26 - 9/30
SSL Hours Opportunity: Election Day
The Montgomery County Board of Elections is seeking school-age students, to serve as Election Day student aides. Its main goal is to increase civic participation and knowledge of the political process. Serving as a student election aide gives students their first exposure to the actual logistics of the democratic process in the United States. Students leave the program with experience in how elections are set up and a greater understanding of and trust in American democracy. Student election aides are not offered any monetary compensation, but they are given Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for every hour they work.

SSL Hour Opportunity: Virtual Workshop
MCPS is hosting a one-hour virtual workshop with WE Schools for MS and HS staff on three different dates in October and November. You are encouraged to attend (and bring a friend or two, or more!) if you are interested in learning more about the free service-learning materials offered by WE Schools and earning one clock hour for your participation. Please see the attached document for more information. Have a good day!

Fall Show Audition Info
It's showtime! Auditions for the fall play will be the last week of September! There will be a short informational meeting this coming Thursday (9/22) after school from 3:10-3:30pm to talk about auditions. Auditions will be held after school Tuesday (9/27) and Wednesday (9/28). If needed, callbacks will be on Thursday (9/29). If your child is unable to make the meeting on Thursday (9/22), you can email Mr. Verga at jacob.a.verga@mcpsmd.net and you can be sent all the relevant information including show information, audition sides, and audition time slot signup info after the meeting is complete.
Music Department Gathering
Please join the SSIMS Music Department and SSIMS Music Boosters for a welcome back gathering. Whether you are in an ensemble class (band, orchestra, or chorus), a music class (guitar or piano), or just love music, join us.
Come and meet SSIMS families and learn about the music classes your students are in and ways to engage with the music department outside of school as well through different types of programming. We will also discuss how we can advocate for the music department and different fundraisers throughout the year.
Please let us know if you can join. * Non Dairy options will be available. We will be meeting outside the music department classrooms!
We look forward to seeing you.
