St Aloysius' College
Newsletter Summer 2 - July 2022
As the curtain draws over another academic year at St Aloysius I am drawn once again to a sense of gratitude, the same sense of gratitude that has touched me throughout this school year and throughout my time as head. To the teachers, staff, governors, support, and other partners who have so wholly dedicated themselves to their work, I give my sincerest thanks.
As I am sure you are all aware, this year has been a year of great accomplishment for the Aloysius community. We are all delighted to have received a much anticipated and much improved “Good” grading from OFSTED in this year’s report. This is an outcome that could not have been achieved without the perseverance and dedication to excellence that I so readily associate with all involved at St Aloysius. When I took over this job in 2020, I could see the enormous potential of this school, but I was not blind to the challenges we faced in realizing that potential. I firmly believe that there is no stopping us from achieving that potential now.
I wish to use this platform to congratulate respectively our Year 11 and Year 13 students who have undertaken their GCSE and A-level examinations. Their professionalism and conduct throughout the period has been an inspiration to all students who will go on to sit their exams in the future. We wish them a happy summer and every success in their upcoming results days.
Outside of academia, I would like to acknowledge the incredible efforts and talents displayed in both our sporting and creative endeavors. Our sporting teams have been a credit to the school, with our academy basketball teams' unbeaten season in the AoC Basketball London League One a shining example that the Aloysian is truly an unstoppable force. As for our creative spirit, I am routinely amazed by the imagination and flair on show at Aloysius and feel immensely proud of our continued commitment to unlocking virtuosity in its every form.
I very much look forward to seeing everyone again in September for the beginning of a new academic year.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer.

Year 11 & 13 - Examinations Finished
A big well done to all of our students in year 11 and year 13 who sat their exams.
This is a massive milestone both for those in year 11 sitting certificated exams for the first time and those looking to take their A-Levels off to university come September.
We are immensely proud of the hard work and effort put in by this cohort and would like to wish them every success come results day.

Year 9's Take a Trip to The Emirates
Year 9 students with the most praise points this year were rewarded with a trip to the Emirates Stadium.⠀
⠀
The boys were lucky enough to enjoy a tour of the stadium and dressing rooms as well as getting to take part in some career focused workshops.⠀
⠀
UKMT Junior Maths Challenge Success
Year 8 students received their certificates for the UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge.⠀
⠀
The sixty minute challenge, completed earlier this year, 'encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Designed to make students think, most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.'⠀
⠀
Congratulations to everyone who took part especially those who were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates.⠀
High Profile Former Pupils Talk to Year 9
⠀
Eric, in his words, came 'back to where it all began, to talk to the kids and maybe give them some game!' And that's exactly what he did"⠀
⠀
No stranger to performing, Eric spoke to the whole of Year 9 about his time at the College, his journey to drama school and into acting and gave some sound words of advice about respecting each other, learning and preparing for the real world.⠀
⠀
Using his media production skills, Harvey produced a video of the visit, which we will share soon. It captured the former students' nostalgic visit and their emotional meet up with their former teachers.
Final Headteachers Breakfast
Our highest achievement point earners from each year sat down with the head for the final headteacher's breakfast of the year.
They discussed their stellar accomplishments over orange juice and pastries in the warm summer sun.
Activities Week at St Aloysius
A full and action packed activities week for our year 7's, 8's and 9's!
With activities ranging from tree top views of London at Go Ape and visiting the London zoo to Geocaching in the wild, this highlight of the school calendar did not disappoint.
Students got the opportunity to use their teamwork, navigational and observational skills, all whilst enjoying lots of energetic activity in the fresh air of London's open spaces.
Bastille Day at St Aloysius
Le Jour de Prise de la Bastille celebrates the anniversary of the French Revolution and is a day to celebrate freedom and the French republican values.
Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité (freedom, Equality and brotherhood) was a french motto popularised during the revolution. These are values encouraged in all Aloysians.
Geography Field Work For Year 10
Our year 10 students got out and about in two pieces of fieldwork. Our students took a trip to Epping Forest. Supported by the Field Studies Council, they carried out a study on the River Ching, a tributary of the River Lea.⠀
In another piece of Fieldwork, our year 10 students headed down to Brick Lane as part of their urban field trip to research gentrification.
⠀
The experience of Physical fieldwork helped to deepen subject knowledge and understanding and the students really enjoyed this outdoor experience.⠀
Feast Day of St Aloysius Gonzaga
We are most grateful to this Saint who guides us along our journey daily.⠀
Primary Multi-Sport Festival
Bathed in glorious sunshine and making the most of our incredible facilities, our Year 12 BTEC Sports students organised a fun festival of sports for Year 5 pupils from Tufnell Park and Yerbury Primary Schools.
In collaboration with Islington Council, this was a fantastic opportunity to bring the young people together to engage in sports such as athletics, tag rugby, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, rounders and tchoukball.
Pupils also received a talk from Year 10 student, Revin, who currently plays for Ipswich Town Football Club. Revin spoke to the pupils about the dedication and focus required to play for a football academy. “I’ve been lucky enough to be in and around a lot of people who have excelled in football, so it was a privilege to have the opportunity to inspire others in turn. The primary pupils listened really nicely and I hope I could encourage them to follow their dreams”.
Following on from this, our Year 12 BTEC Sports students then went on to welcome pupils from St Joseph’s and Duncombe Primary to our fabulous sports fields for a session. Students coached the pupils in a variety of fun activities including athletics, rounders, tag rugby and Tchoukball.
