The Buzz From Burd
James Burd Elementary School Newsletter
July 5, 2022
The James Burd Family will work together to create a welcoming, inspiring, and engaging environment, where all learners take pride in reaching their full potential.
Message from Mr. Flohr
As we turn the calendar to July, everyone at James Burd Elementary hopes you are enjoying their summer. I hope that this time has been filled with wonderful experiences and memories.
Please take time to review the information below under the "In case you missed it" section. In that portion of our newsletter you can find information on an optional summer enrichment opportunity for students, summer meal information/menu, and important dates.
Please note that the parent pickup and drop off procedures will change slightly this year. This information will be shared in a separate, special edition of The Buzz From Burd. Please know that this change is being done to focus on the safety of all individuals while on the James Burd campus.
There have been a few changes at James Burd Elementary that will take place at the start of the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Rajnish and Mrs. Wheeler have left SASD, and Mrs. Chiappelli has retired. We are very lucky to have some amazing people join our family this year. Mrs. Wallo will be joining us from the Middle School as an additional ABA teacher. Miss Aloisi will be joining us from the Intermediate School as a Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Bear will be moving to first grade. Finally, Mrs. Rager will be joining us as our counselor. I will share more about these individuals as we get closer to the start of the year.
On June 26, the SASD approved the James Burd A-TSI School Improvement Plan. It is currently found on our website, but I have attached it below for your convenience.
Our main office will be open between the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm for the month of July. The office will be closed on Monday, July 4, but open Tuesday through Friday (July 5-8). The rest of the month, we will be open Mondays through Thursdays and closed on Fridays.
Yours in learning,
Mr. Flohr

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
If you need paper copies of any of the materials included with this, please contact Mr. Flohr and we will arrange a way to get it to you.
Reading:
Attached below is a reading log for your child to complete each day that they read at least 15 minutes. Simply color in each circle for those 15 minutes read. Around the outside of the sheet are different activities to provide some variety to your reading routines. If you need suggestions for different books, please visit the Coy Public Library in Shippensburg.
Math:
Attached below are different game boards and activities from Greg Tang Summer Math Challenges. For each board that is completed, your child can be entered to win an autographed copy of a book from Greg Tang as well as a prize from Mr. Flohr. Simply select a board that fits best with your child's ability.
Our math coach, Mrs. Schmus, provided students with the opportunity to practice math as well. Complete 900 minutes of math to earn a prize from her at the start of the school year.
Again, this optional opportunity is another chance for your child to engage in meaningful learning over the summer. We hope everyone enjoys this opportunity! Please reach out if there are any questions.
